Colder Weather / Heated Jackets???
As I am wraping up the wiring on my build, I am thinking about adding a second power outlet. This way when my wife and I are driving on those colder mornings, cooler evenings or even in early spring or late fall we could each plug in our heated jackets. A friend of mine suggested them since he is a big motorcycle riding fan.
My question is have any of you tried these and if so how have they worked for you? I had installed a heater in my last built car and I felt like it was pretty much a waste of keeping the upper torsoe warm, and so it was pretty much wasted weight. I figure the legs can be kept warm a little by the heat that naturally comes off of the big block.
Your thoughts?
Jackets Source?
Will the standard wiring power outlet be enough for these?
Thanks in advance,
Todd

With vest, pants, gloves and socks it will pull about 200 watts on full,I believe.
A 12 ga. wire should handle it and the correct fuse. You can and should get the thermostat as well.
They do get nice & toasty

Todd,
You can get them at Harley or BMW motorcycle dealers.

Superformance has a heater. It works great and puts the heat where you want it, with two adjustable doors underneath the dashboard.
For anyone building a Cobra, see if the manufacturer offers a heater as an option.

The engine does a good job of keeping your torso warm- its your head that will get cold.
I suggest a decent leather jacket and a good cap - wool lined maybe.

I don't notice the cold that much. I was driving a couple weeks ago and the temps were below freezing.
BUT, my wife is another matter. Trying to keep her warm can be a challange. I bought her a battery powered vest, and she loves it. The advantage is that when we stop somewhere, she's still warm. On high, the battery lasts about 6-7 hours.
I installed a power outlet in the trunk. If we're going to be gone for a long day or a couple of days, we plug in the charger and keep the second battery ready.
I also bought a pair of battery powered gloves for commuting on my motorcycle. Driving in cold weather with those on is really nice.
IMO, battery technology has advanced anough to make them a better choice than hard wired for most people.
