When I did mine I used Burns 3.5" stainless flanges and clamps. I had them tigged to mild steel exhaust pipe. Collecters to mufflers and then to turn out pipe. In total I have three sets of interchangable mufflers. EM original , Lo-Bak, and straight through open pipes. I used the staggered flange method creating a male to female connection. One side of the joint the pipe is inside the V-flangefrom the flange mating surface, the other side of the joint, the pipe protrudes from the V-flange mating surface a matching length so the gap in the pipes is staggered so it doesn't line up with the gap in the flanges. Leakage is minor and manageable. I was then able to have the 2 piece headers (from engine to inside body and then through body -turn and collecter), 2 sets of mufflers and open pipe (muffler substitute), and turnout pipe, all ceramic coated inside and out and tumble polished. My setup has the muffler hanger bracket secured to each muffler. My exhaust is rich and slobbers some. Some of it manages to escape the joints. Almost absolute but not exactly. Given time it should coke up seal off . Burns offered a reduced price on the V-flange and clamp kits, if ordered in quantities . I ended up using 8 kit sets of flanges and clamps but didn't anticapate the total quantity and ordered the kits in small bunches. I can change mufflers with a whench and screw driver. I have the hot mufflers covered with the perforated SS shrouds from Finish Line accessories.
