Keck's CSX3008 Painting at the "Glen"
FYI Jay Keck (Hal's son) informed me that Bob Gillespie of www.glenspeed.com was making a painting of Hal piloting #88 during the 1965 "Watkins Glen 500" race, which he and co-driver Oscar Kevaloski won. This also was the last Watkins Glen 500 mile race.
The painting was auctioned at the "Watkins Glen Festival in Sept. "08 with all the proceeds going to "The Watkins Glen Research Center" ( www.racingarchives.org).
Bob has made prints available on his website.
Thought I would make this information available.
NO, I'm not on a commission, and YES, I paid the same for my print that you will pay for yours.

Thanks for the heads-up.
I have the "Milliken's Curve" (the blue Bugatti) one hanging in my den.
Really nice stuff.

very nice painting
hello, I remember Hal's car when it was that burnt orange color in the late 60's. I was around 10 yrs. old and I spent time with Jay playing and doing nothing while they worked on the cobra.
That is a very nice painting of Hals car.
regards, karl

Karl, I'm surprised we haven't met, my now wife, Pat and I where at Keck's house almost every night of the week working on the Cobra or the Z28 or doing something with their family. During the summer we were off to the races some where almost every weekend and during the winter went snowmobiling.
I'm starting to find some our old slides of the 60's and 70's and scanning them into jpegs, thanks to the help of Ron. In fact I just found a couple more from 1971 at Walkins Glen that i've got to scan.
Check out my photos that have been posted under SS COBRA, you'll fine some of the Keck family there.
tbuttrick.....When Hal had the small block Cobra I think he might have had #13 as one of the numbers he used. I remember one time it was #10 or #11. The car was CSX2127 and was sponsored by Hellertown Ford. One year they finished up front at Sebring and was the highest finish for an independent, non factory team

Hello, you would not remember me, I was only 10 yrs old, my dad & butch fryer were building Hal's engines and helping to work or the car for a few seasons.
were you at daytona in '69? apparently Hal qualified with the alum heads, magnesium water pump & intake manifold, then they were forced to remove those parts and put the stock parts back on the engine for the race. I think Hal lost 2nd gear and Pete Consiglio passed Hal for the win on the last lap or next to the last lap.
regards, karl

No, late '68 until '71 I had to spend some time with Uncle Sam and missed a couple seasons of racing. I left for the Navy right after we wrecked the Z28 at Reading, when I came back the Cobra was orange and Hal was building a Javlin for A/S racing. Your dad must have worked on the car between Jim Dantzer and Paul Movachec. Didn't Pete have the Black Cobra? I think we met Pete at Thompson one of the races.
JBo, the painting at the acution was sold for $1,700.00.
