Default Velocity collectors in side pipes ?

What are considered the best velocity collectors for side pipes ?

Brand, shape, steel, stainless ect. And not over the top price. I've seen some of $900 + !

Thanks,

I just bought these, 124 bucks for everything I needed.. I should get them any day in the mail. The 2" primary with the 3" outlet will match up perfectly to my Classic Chambered 3" Cobrapacks. Thanks to RonNichols here for the referral..

They're shaped like a venturi when completed to keep the speed up. Sounds good in theory with the crop of exhaust articles out there, and the price was right compared to SPD or Burns.

Looks well built and the price is fair. Your pipes look great. Did you get the stainless ?
Thanks guys,

Thanks guys,
Yes, but only because Cone Engineering didn't have mild steel at the time of order. I had to get 309 filler rod for mild to stainless, and use SolarFlux B on the backside of the weld area. If I was just modifying mild steel pipes, I would just get mild steel from now on as stainless is a whole nother animal.

It was a good learning lesson though as now I'm playing around with a set in stainless. I'm kinda loosing my interest though until spring, as my kids keep wanting me to take them skiing. Priorities.

I received the Cone Engineering setup today. I assembled the Venturi cones, Mig welded them together and smoothed everything up. The Mig worked well on the cones. I'll use it for for welding the cones to the primaries and "tacking" the rest of the assembly together. After that I'll have all exterior welds Tig welded by a pro.

So far so good.

No problem Rich, I'm just glad you guys are out there. To think I almost dropped $900 just for merge collectors.... You'll be hearing from me very shortly as I may need another set for my latest project. In stainless too.

coneeng, undy & Ron,

Can you guys supply me with all the parts & numbers for building the side pipes from the collector to exhaust tip ?

I need to get all of it ordered soon but I'm feeling so sick, my brain does not want to function. my buddy Chad said he will weld them up.
Three inch muffler, Venturi cones ect.....

Same size of yours Ron.

Undy, when you have time, please send me all the info with yours and pics if you have them yet.

Goin back to bed.

Thanks,

Thanks,

You got the crud Kevin?

Starting with the turn downs/tips, It's Classic Chambered part# 35-Tip
Then to the 26" bodied, packed muffler, CC part# 3026-COBRA-P
http://www.classicchambered.com/classic/products.html
The last piece is the merge collector kit, 2" primaries w/a 3" outlet Cone Engineering part# CL4-200-3-MS.
http://www.coneeng.com/pdf/4-1%20Collector%20Kits.pdf
You just pitch out the cone, you won't need it. The outlet of the merge collector will be welded directly to your muffler inlet, no room or need at all for the cone. I talked to Cone Eng and this was the recommended way for a 3" ID muffler.
If you're building your J pipes too then you'll want to by their primary alignment tool, CE part# TO-CA4-200200
http://www.coneeng.com/pdf/Collector...ents%20PDF.pdf
I already had 2" primary J pipes so I didn't need to build them. I reused them. Are yours 2"?

Instead of ordering the collector kit that includes the transition cone, you can order the parts individually. With the whole kit you get a 10% savings from the individual components but unless you are using the cones you won't be saving money.

Unless you wanted to use them to make some nice votive candle holders for your special lady - remember, Valentines Day is approaching! Actually, wouldn't she love some exhaust components for this special occasion????

I can't think straight enough to read or understand I'm hurting so bad.
I don't mean to be a procrastinator here, I really want to take about the pipes and look up the products, but I hope tomorrow will be better, I fell as a two year old and suffered brain damage. I have headaches, migraines and a pain I can't explain other than what I've call as a kid as "the zaps" . I have a scale from 1 to ten. I'm always and a 2-3 when feeling pretty damn good. As my head pain gets worse, I get these "Zaps". It's like the old mad scientist movies when he has the toe mental balls and the electricity arcing between the two and sounds like,..zzzzzzzZAP, zzz AP,zzzzzzzzap. ect. It;s hard to explain. I have this pain 24/7 for 46 years now.

My Neurologist says my neurons are miss firring creating the Zaps. I also broke my neck racing and when I get the bad pain, my entire head neck and shoulders go in spasms. I have a fairly bad coughing cold and people don't understand when I say I would rather have the flu than a cold, The coughing kills me head, I haven't had a level 8.9 or 10 for over a year now since I've retired and can my meds, hot shower, cold & heat packs, total darkness and no sound. I usually can feel it's going to rise on my scale so as long as I get to helping myself, it usually stop's at apx. 6. I've only passed out say 12 times in my life from the pain.

Three months ago, I was winterizing my truck at my Buddy's mechanic shop. I'm also diabetic and and felt a little low and shaking so I stooped My head was getting worse so most of the time I get home fast or stop and call someone for help because I don't want to drive and hurt someone, anyway, I went a bought a Coke. I recall going across some railroad cross and 6 blocks later, I woke up laying across the seat and my windshield was shattered. I thought damn, I got in a wreck and I hope I did not hurt anyone. Someone said, hey, hey, you ok ?

Then Chad (my best friend and angel), looked at me and knew right away what I needed, my sugar pill and juice as I was shaking terribly. I was balling in pain so he even told the paramedics to be quiet and when the fire truck ect... was coming and he held my ears shut. What a friend !

I passed out several times (thankfully) Damn, You know what, I forgot to mention what happened after the crossing and when I noticed the windshield shattered. (my head is buzzing),... anyway, I crossed traffic, into a Yard went through their deck and into their house, The second story was sitting on top of my truck, holding the house up. They could not remove it until a engineer shored it up. They used the jaws of life to open my door. The sound was killing me and passed out again. I woke up in the ambulance and Chad was it it and said the since the paramedics knew what was happening, they wanted him with us. I again passed out. In the emergency room, The Doctor wanted to shine a light in my eyes to check for brain damage ect.... Chad actually knocked the flash light out of his hands and said ,it will kill Kevin or he'll kill you. Anyway, God was with us all because the family of five were not home !
I only suffered a broken scapula and cracked hip.
It took the crew 8 hours to remove my truck out of their living room. From the outside, you could see the stairs going up stairs. My Bro-in-law said, hell, you just gave them a sun room ! lol

I'm a body man and the next week I went to check it out. The front end frame was bent to the right and the back frame was bent to the left. The officer told Chad I hit the house at apx. 35-40 mph. The truck was totaled.

I'm also lucky I was laying down when I hit the house. A splintered 2x4 came through the windshield and also a piece of 6" pvc pipe, both headed to my head and torso. The family was great, They called me in the hospital and at home several times, wishing me well.

God blessed the family and myself.

I feel embarrassed writing this but, I'm on some heavy medications today and I get very sentimental !

I don't like talking about this in person so, I'll vent this all on you ! lol

You guys are the best internet friends I could imagine and have talked to a few of you on the phone.

Anyway, it takes me along time to get anything done and sometimes very confused about things that are so,oooo simple. I usually figure it out with help. When I'm not, in a lot of pain, things are a lot easier.

I'm a little wacked out so, I hope this letter is not confusing.

I'll get back to this thread because I want to get making my new pipes.

Thank you much my friends,
Kevin

Wow Kevin - you poor guy! That is a shame to hear you are going through SO much agony all the time. I hope you can somehow start living in less discomfort. I was rear-ended in a car accident back in 1979 when I lived in the Chicago area & about 3 days later realized I had whiplash - I had a bad headache that basically lasted for a year & no OTC pain meds could help it. To this day, I still get what I call my "car accident headache" - it's gettin me right now as I type. Lately I've been starting to experience a cracking in my neck when I move my head a certain way. I don't think there is any way to fix this, so like you, I just live with it.

When you are ready for the mufflers, let me know.

Dave, how far are you away from running the new system? (I gotta look for a shirt for you too - I'll send it out).

Darn Eric... I'd forgot about the shirt (as big a size as you have).. I guess I'll just have to wear my "auger pipes" tee until I get yours..

I've got everything built and tack welded together with my MIG. My TIG welder's 75% done with all the finished welding. I should have them back this week. The zinc coating on everything's really giving my welder a fit, gas bubbles in his welds, weld, grind, weld, grind ..etc, etc. After that it's off to the local HPC coater. I'll post finished pics when it's all done.

Did you re-use the square header plate that connects to the primary curved tubes, to the collector, or make all new from the headers to the exhaust tip ?

I'm assuming you're talking about the 4 bolt square flange that connects the J-pipes to the header Kevin. In that case yes, I reused it. I'd already had Lone Star make me a custom set of 2" primary J-pipes that matched perfectly to the 2" primary FE headers several years ago. The original from Lone Star was a 1 3/4" primary J-pipe that hooked directly up to the 2" headers. Talk about an exhaust flow killer. Lone Star knows squat about performance and could care less, IMO.

Top of the mornin Dave,
for your pain, have you tried physical therapy, chiropractor of acupuncture ? I feel for you bro.

Back in 2001, my bro-in-laws sister Melony, was a bicyclist living in Dallas. Her and a friend were riding on the highway (which I've always think is stupid as hell) a truck hit her and her friend saw the whole thing but was too much in shock to remember what it looked liked as the dumb ass , kept going. She went face first into the highway. Her head was the only injury but, they did not expect her to live as her brain swelling was severe. She was in a coma for 6 weeks. She's had 26 surgery's just on her face because every bone was either broken or shattered. She has silicone pillows as cheeks, all false teeth, even her eye sockets were shattered. She bit off half her tongue too. If you looked at a before and after pictures, you would not know they were the same person. The surgeons did a fantastic job and she looks real nice, besides some scares. Mentally she's great but emotionally, she still has a lot of problems, as too be expected.

She is extremely intelligent and is the head computer programmer for IBM. They even set up her house with all she needs to still work for them. She actually wrote the entire programing for "Disney Europe". It's hard to imagine she had no permanent brain damage and thankfully, does not remember the accident and is a wonderful person.

Anyway, she gets headaches with really no medication relief, so she tried acupuncture, and that helps her immensely. If she feels one coming on, she can leave work at anytime and get to her acupuncturist, if she can, she gets immediate relief.

Sorry for such a long story but, she's a great woman and, I wanted to mention if you haven't tried acupuncture, maybe it could help you. I'll pray that you will, and that it helps you buddy.

Ok, now about the exhaust. My J pipes are fine but will have to measure them. They are ceramic coated from LS and are now very dull. I don't know if I can have them stripped and a new coat applied or not ? But, is they are smaller than 2", I'll need new ones made.

Will LS still make me a pair ?

Thanks bud,
