Default Mercedes Cobra

2009 Mercedes-Benz McLaren SLR Stirling MossNamed after the legendary 1950s race driver Stirling Moss, this 650-horsepower supercar sure a heck looks like a modern rendition of a Shelby Cobra, with similar curves, no top, dual paper-clip roll bars, and light weight carbon fiber body stuffed with a brute of a powerplant.
Only 75 will be produced at a price of 750,000 euros which works out to about $1 million apiece. You'd also have to throw in the cost of a helmet and wait for good weather. This car doesn't have a convertible top. It's got no top. When there's no-one in it, the passenger compartment can be enclosed using a pair of covers that fit into the truck.

The car's entire body is made from lightweight, strong and very expensive carbon fiber. This will be the last car in Mercedes' exotic SLR line. In May, SLR production will cease altogether.

With the economy in a worldwide funk, you might think there's no place for a car like this. But customers who can afford million dollar toys aren't worrying much. Besides, the SLR will attract a lot of attention and reinforce Mercedes' high-end image.

Default Automatic?

Not that I would ever be in the market, but I hope it is not only an automatic like the other SLR's.

Love SLRs...asspecially the side exhaust.

The Black kicks it's ass now, at half the price...so the writing was on the wall.

Overpriced junk IMHO. Too big and fugly. But the engine sounds like a Spitfire at full bore - I've seen them do customer test drives along the (Top Gear) runway at Dunsfold aerodrome where the thing can stretch its legs. Amazing sound. I was also cruising along our main (interstate) motorway, the M1, last year at a steady 85 when I saw one of those blighters in my rear view mirror. It came out of nowhere and blasted past like I was parked, overtaking and undertaking. Waaay into three-digit speeds. Mental. Quite a few have been bent.

Looks like an updated W196 from the 50's, I dig it!

Posted this a while back. My brother saw this SLR on a tow truck in Costa Mesa and took a pic on his phone. Ouch!
