Default Trailering quest.

I have a 06 gmc denali, I am going to use my friends 20' trailer w/elec brakes. The dealer told me I would have to hard wire a electric brake kit into the wire harness. I was also told by a few people that they make a plug in kit that works by just pluging it in to the fuse box and harness connecters ?????I was also told that you have to push a button to activate the brakes while driving, which to me makes no sence.......Any help would be great .... THANKS

Go down to any trailer place or a Uhaul dealer and for a few bucks they will wire in a TeKonsha Voyager trailer brake controller. Once it is set, forget it. Plug in your trailer harness and away you go.
Yes, some of the newer vehicles come with the trailer harness under the dash and out to the rear bumper, but the controller still has to be connected to the harness and the trailer connector at the rear bumper will probably need to be installed and connected to the vehicle wiring.

Default Trailer towing with a gmc

I tow my 18' enclosed trailer with a 2006 GMC Sierra 1500 Vortex Max. The only difference between it and your Denali is your AWD where as I have selectable 4 wheel drive.
Your trailer hookup is a breeze. If you don't have a trailer package there are still wires to the back of your truck. They are tucked up under the brake booster in front. At the back, probably on the drivers side frame rail, you will find them folded back and taped. You can hard wire per your controller instructions.
If a trailer option, the brakes can be hooked up with a small loom that you can buy. I use a Prodigy brake controller and that loom plugs right into the junction box to the left of the steering column under the dash.
To "power" the brakes you need to go into the main electrical box under the hood in front of the PS booster. There should be a "blank" fuse that needs to be replaced with a 45 amp plug in. The fuse instructions tell you which it is.
I use a weight distribution hitch and it tows like a dream.

You should be able to buy a wire harness that plugs into a connector to the left of the streering column under the dash. The truck should be pre-wired if you have a factory trailer connector in the rear. The wire harness is available at a trailer/RV supply retailer for like $15 bucks. Plug in and wire to your brake controller and your good to go!

Default Give me a call, I will walk you through it

Sparks Give me a call. I will walk you through it to do. The trailer wiring is rapped up in the back of the truck behind the bumper. There is a red and blue wire, rapped in the front by the fuse block under the brake booster. You will still need to buy a brake controller box. There should be a patch cable in the truck for hooking up the trailer lights with a picture of the wires and what color they are. Give me a call, I can walk you through it. You will need a 7 pin connector and plate to mount it on the back of your truck. Use tow mode also and unless you are on real flat roads, stay out of 4 gear with the convertor on lockup. 732-254-3536 Rick L.
