I can guaranty that it's still there too. There are several of them for sale at $130k and they aren't selling either. Remember when the Ford GT came out? Ford dealers were marking them up $50K - $100K. Some actually got it too. That was when times were good. Things are different now.

The ZR1 is an impressive car but in the end its a Corvette. A dime a dozen.
Where does it even compare to the Ford GT?

A stock ZR1 would wipe the floor with a stock Ford GT.. The Ford GT's stock times were right in line with the Z06s.. know several people who have both.
Now if you talk only about esthetics, that's another matter.

Both have supercharged V8's.
Both have 6 speed manual transaxles
Both seat 2
Both cars built by American car companies.
Both cars are halo cars for their respective companies.
Both are limited production and similar cars will not be made again by either company for a long, long, long time.

I think with the untold BILLIONS we've handed out to GM...every tax payer should get a ZR1 for their cost, period...oh, and 0% down, 0% interest courtesy of Fannie Mae. Hell, they want another $16B after the first $13B did nothing...and now say chapter 11 could cost us $100B. For as much grief as they've cost us...what's a couple ZR1's to keep us interested in helping them???

The 1.2 trillion handed out so far is only equal to $4,000 per person, sorry.

We're also talking about a ~22 mile road course. All three cars are incredible at The Ring, so I'm not trying to choose sides here...just putting it in perspective.

Logic would tell you with the HP/Weight ratio heavily favoring the ZR1 that the times wouldn't be as close. Obviously the mid-engine configuration of the GT is more optimal for traction and straight line acceleration, but The Ring times indicate that the ZR1 is the better all-around performer.

I wouldn't exactly say that a ZR1 would wipe the floor with a stock FGT based on the numbers posted above. Putting the slight performance edge a new ZR1 may have over the FGT aside (simply rectified by installing the Heffner Tune) it will never have the character or soul found in a Ford GT.
There will undoubtedly be cars that will come along that will exceed the performance of the Ford GT (now at least 3 years old) but few cars ever come along that set bench marks in design, perfermance, character, soul, stir the soul and clearly become automotive icons themselves and spring from world icons and automotive heros like the Ford GT. The Cobra is another example of an automotive icon. I don't consider the Corvette an automotive icon on the level of the FGT, GT40, Cobra and others. But hey thats just me.

Its not hundredths of a second, its seconds. So the 14 second gap and 4 second gap are sizable.

In 10 years the average car person will look at the corvette and ask Z01 or Z06 what is that?
In 10 years the same people will look at the ford and say WOW, a Ford GT.
I have had a Gt for a month, I can put an Exhaust / Pulley / Tune on it and get 150 more HP. What do I need it for? Went 145 this weekend on a lonely stretch of road and hadn't hit 6th gear yet. I will not be driving the "Ring" so could care less. To be honest, it has almost as much usable power now that you can put to the ground with street tires. If you care, Stock it is as quiet at 70 as my wifes Subaru Tribeca and rides 10 times more comfortably than my Silverado Pickup. It took me years to be able to buy this car. I have owned 12 different cars in the last 3 years alone. Traded in a 2008 Shelby GT500 (great car except for the terrible wheel hop), a CAV GT40 kit and a 2007 Saturn Sky. This will be the last fun car I will need to buy "ALL IN, ALL DONE" I use the GT for comfort and fast and the Lone Star Cobra for the LOUD, Not real comfortable, and fast car.
Too each his own!!!!

First of all it is a ZR1, not a Z01. I love the Ford GT, but I disagree. The ZR1 is a monster, and with the new vehicle CAFE standards might be one of the last true American super cars. Nobody knows what the future holds, but I suspect the CAFE standards as well as the economic conditions will greatly effect the new performance cars that are built. Just my.02

My sentiments stem from the fact I am clearly not a Vette guy but do have a soft spot for the classics. I admit to being biased but I still think Tugboat is dead on.
Give me a mint 1967 427 stingray convertible over the ZR1 any day of the week.

I would take a Ford GT over a ZR1, but I would also have to bump the boost to get more than the 500 hp it comes from the factory with. The ZR1 at about 100 grand though is a deal and it is a monster straight off the showroom floor. I went to the auto show here in San Diego a month ago or so, and the ZR1 was the most impressive car there IMO.
I agree with you on the classic Vettes. My father owned a 69 with a 427, and I wish I had that car in my garage today.

Here's my car. C5 Corvette drivetrain, suspension, wheels, tires bolted to a space frame which keeps the Z06 track and wheelbase. The engine is moved rearward 20inches for a true mid engine balance. My brother in law, Paul and I sculpted the body which is inspired by the 1950's sports racers. It's street legal and goes like stink! 405hp, 1980lbs, thats only 4.88 lbs per hp which I believe beats the GT 500 and the new ZR1. This car costs less than $30,000 to build. I like the other ones but can't afford one.

John,
I like your car. It is not something that you are going to see every day and that to me makes a big difference. That is one reason our Cobra group here died out and now I think there are maybe 3 or 4 left. Everyone got tired of seeing the same cars over and over and was looking for something that no one else had.
Great job on the build and it looks great to me.
Ron
