Default Exhaust hangers on SPF

Does anyone know the with of the exhaust hangers by chance? I am installing new motor mounts and one of the hangers is cracked. I am going to weld on a new piece under the old piece. Dont have car w/me so I cant measure it. 1/2 , 5/8, 3/4 ???? Plan on getting a peice of steel from HD or lowes...Any tricks on installing the mounts would be greatly appr. also....Thanks.

Both of mine broke within 3 weeks of each other at approx 10K miles, where the two pieces join before it bolts to the underside of the car. I took a short piece of heavy duty shelf leg and cut the 90 degree leg into two flat pieces of stock about 5 inches long with holes all along the length. Then welded the ends, the long length and the holes to the existing steel hanger on the bottom. Then re-welded the angled steel brace in place on top. Put a small angled piece of the leg along the top and welded that to the two pieces on either side of the old break.

The extra steel has stiffened up the hanger so it does not flex as much ... which originally caused the breakage.

That was about 5K miles ago, and no problems to date.

did you find that when you unbolted your hangers that the moved alot, and did they take some pressure to get the pipes where they were aligned w/ the mounting hole ??

My pass. side mount is cracked and to get it to where it belongs I must put alot of down pressure. Mounts are prob shot ? Hopefully new mounts will help this issue.....

If you are talking about motor mounts, I doubt very much that is a problem. Just have the rear side pipe mount attached to the floor loosely. Then weld up the bracket ... and tighten the bolt.

About the only thing that I could see that might help is loosen all of the header bolts and then wiggle the side pipe up or down to make the fit better. Then re-tighten the header bolts.

Better yet ... replace the cracked mount. Tack weld the old brackets back together. Heat up the bracket and bend. Bolt it up to floor ... tack weld gussets to existing mounting brackets. Remove rubber mount. Weld new gussets. Reattach everything.

I was thinking about the headers to the engine block.
