oil pan leak

I have a sb stroker that has an oil leak. It is equipped with a Moroso pan and a 9 quart system. The pan is leaking towards the right rear. I have tried to snug up these bolts and still a leak. Any recommendations? I am trying to get around dropping the pan and adding a new gasket but thought I would check with you guys before I do.

Is it possible your oil pan bolts are bottoming out in their holes? Just a thought. I have bolts on mine but I know you can use studs with nuts as an alternative. Also you could add a couple extra washers if you think that is your problem.

Make sure the pan itself doesn't have a small dip or dent in that area. Then if you don't want to drop it, you could try using some of the Right Stuff. I have fixed two oil leaks that way. It is a black substance that you get in a small can and I got mine at NAPA. I dried off the areas that were leaking and then put some on my finger, it is very sticky so have something to wash it off with if you do this, and smeared it along the edge where the leak was and made sure to press it in so some of it would actually go into where the gasket was. I then let it set overnight and never had another leak in those areas.

I am dealing with the same issue right now. From what I understand you can expect 2-3 years from one of those oil pan gaskets. I will just replace it when I change the oil, 20 bucks and an hour or two should do it.

Every oil leak on a SBF looks like a pan or rear main seal. No matter where the oil is leaking from, it always ends up on the same spot. Very deceptive. Before replacing any parts, make sure that's where the real problem is.

I just solved the same issue on my car. It turned out that it was a weld on the oil pan (right by the drain plug). It was nothing a new pan couldnt resolve....
