Help: Appraisal Thoughts: 1964 Cobra
I was wondering what you guys thought this was worth. A 1964 Shelby Cobra, all original, never restored, 30K miles, lots of documentation, very good running condition and a 289. I don't know alot about the original cobras so I wanted to asked the professionals once again.

All original CSX and 30k miles of track might translate to less than market value, unless it has a history. However, an unmolested car that is in decent order would be big dollar as they can never be brought back to original state once restored. They can only be unmolested once....
I assume we are talking 289 street car?
CSX2345, unrestored FIA (might be 63 car?) Millions......
Slabside street car ~ $550k to $600K as the recent sale of CSX2485 had proved.
Unrestored and good condition is a rare find and a highly prized car!

Can you provide any more info on the car such as the chassis number?
All original can mean at lot of different things. As does never restored. Never repainted? Body never replaced? etc etc.
Actual sales at recent auctions are limited. The range could be $350K, 450K

Jeff,
The sale of CSX2485 was last August. With the present economy, I think prices have receded.

If your comments that the car is all original and never restored are meant to suggest that it is in excellent unmolested condition, then it might be worth more than the few recent sales of restored Cobras might suggest, as there are plenty of people looking for the proverbial "Cobra in the barn." But A-Snake is correct that prices have declined, and unless the car is super clean, the likelihood of getting over $600k (which 2485 brought) is probably remote.

I will try to get the chassis number and for my own info, what would the chassis number be helpful for? By the way, where would that be located? I told you I'm clueless on this. This car, i believe is a "barn car" but has been maintained, ie. original owner, with all supporting documentation, check used to pay for it, only 30,000 miles. From what I've been told this car was taken to a track 2-3 years ago and taken through the paces by the owner (now deceased) and ran great. Thanks for any help.

Also, it is a 289 car, no sidepipes, and red in color (ugly color from what I've been told) Thanks again.

The chassis number would allow the verification of many of the attributes of the car in question. That number would allow referencing the Cobra history accumulated in the World Registry of Cobras, published by the Shelby American Automobile Club (SAAC). This history has been accumulated over decades thru the tireless work of the Registrars.
Information about when and where the car was originally delivered, dealer info, original configuration, etc., may be looked up in the SAAC World Registry.

Where exactly do I need to look for it at. Keep in mind, I'll have a old lady looking for it. Thanks again.

Lift the hood and look for the serial number plate on the top of the footbox.

Stand on the right side of the car (passenger side) Open the hood and look down on the white footbox. There should be a black aluminum plate from AC Cars Ltd. The chassis number will be stamped, beginning with CSX.

Am I right in thinking that the registry will not help in identifying this cobra unless the owner actually registered this car on the actual registry. I went to the website and it seems that this is how it works. Is that correct?

saac.com is the correct site. The records are not online; they are in the book.

www.saac.com is the correct site for the Shelby American Automobile Club.
This page http://www.saac.com/index.php?option...pper&Itemid=70 is used by owners to list changes in ownership or modifications to the car.
Information on cars is not shown on the site. If anyone is interested in purchasing a Cobra, they should contact the Registrar at cobraregistrar@saac.com to confirm the known information on the car in question.
