Hmmm is that a molotov cocktail? That reminds me I'm going to cut a hole in some aluminum to hook that up to. There's a shim on the back that looks like it needs a new home too! I gotta bust on you some cos you're smoking by me on progress, I'm ready for the call "hey listen to this".

Default Fired it up!

Hey, We made more progress, fired it up on wed. Nick at Acton Custom installed new mufflers in the side pipes and it sounds great. No problems or leaks. I'm waiting to install the rear uprights so we can test drive it.

I have video of the start up on mini dvd, how do I get the video to the CC site? thanks, karl

Karl,
Download it to your computer, then open a youtube account and download it to youtube. Once that is done, just highlight, copy, and paste the address to the youtube video here so we can all watch.

My chassis and suspension parts came back from the sandblaster today and went directly to the powdercoater. Should have it back in about two weeks and start assembly. Maybe I can catch up to you at some point......

If that Nick guy would stop working so hard, he might get something done on his own Cobra.
BTW, Nick, I made up a jig and made up some of the recessed suspension bolt washers out of 14 guage steel. Anyone need some?

Bob

Very cool Karl. I hope I'm at that stage soon. Just got my chassis back from the powdercoater yesterday, so I just have to finish up a couple items for assembly and start putting Tab A into Hole B, tighten, repeat....

Default Csx 2498

Did you or your family ever autox 2498 in Pittsburgh in the late 1960's or early 1970's? I talked with some folks in Pittsburgh around that time that had a 289 and I believe a 427, they ran the 289 in the event I was entered in.

Karl and his family know all the Cobra guys up and down the right coast. That thing has seen some fun track times and Karl tells great stories about it.
Bob if you didn't stop dinking around making tools to make little parts instead of buying them, your getting as bad as me mate but the layer of dust is off your project. powdercoating is good remember all the sizes to clean the holes out to.

thanks for the kind words, it is not quite finished yet. I have to mount the alum body and add all the chrome, then paint this winter.

hello 3170, my dad did have a 289 & 427 cobra for a while, although not officially. the owner of the 427 lived in ohio and did not have enough money for all the work my dad did to the car. so he told my dad to keep it or sell it for him to pay his bill. we could not afford to keep both so the 427 was sold to a guy in daytona beach florida, he came to our house with a plastic trash full of money and it made a huge pile on our dining room table. the car was loaded into a big truck and was gone to florida.

the 289 cobra CSX2498 was not raced in autox at that time. my dad was building engines for Hal Keck's CSX3008 and Jim Sypherd's R Model GT-350 from approx. '68 - '71. CSX2498 was just the regular street car.

our friend Butch Fryer had a 289 cobra and he raced the autox in SE Penna area. His car was white, I will ask what the serial number was on his car.

regards, karl

Hey Karl, that 50 lbs of aluminum that has to be added will increase the traction a little.

Yeah, I know- but what I lack in money I make up for in available time. Got the washers done, should be doing some assembly today and tomorrow. May even start on the brake lines this week.

Karl, where did you get the aluminum body? Do you have all the aluminum pieces you need for the car?

Hey, I do not think the 50lbs. of alum body will make any difference in my traction problem. I need the super sticky tires and a little less throttle pedal. hahaha

I purchased the alum body from a CC member. He wanted to mount it on a replica cobra in place of the glass body but the project was abandoned in favor of a kirkham. a good choice buying the kirkham. he sold the alum body and the glass car.

yeah, I have 99% of the close out panels. that was the easy part for me. My job is sheet metal fabrictor as in roofing mechanic/sheet metal fab. we use a lot of 040, 050 alum sheets and 16 oz. copper. I have all the normal tools and I have use of a 20' CNC break for making difficult pcs. get that project car running, it is more fun than pushing.
later, karl
