Yes, I did see the breakfeast that Bill posted, we are in church sunday morning and will not have a title & license by next sunday.
thanks for the comments, I had a lot of help building this car. The guys at the CNC machine shop (EGW) made parts, and Dave at the regular machine shop help me with brackets & many other parts, Nick at Acton custom made me a big stack of parts and pcs., my Dad flew in from Atlanta several times to help with final assembly. Scratch built 427 project
Hello, UPDATE: The Cobra has passed state inspection, the title has arrived and the license plate is here. All of the official stuff is finished and the car has been on the road for a week. It runs and handles great, there was a small problem with a holley carb that was rebuilt at Pony Carbs, the needles were sticking in the seats and producing a nasty "turbo lag" situation. We changed the needles and it is almost perfect.
It will go in for a coat of paint over the winter break. new photos & uptdates after a few hundred more miles. regards, karl |
on the road
Good times.....

Hi KarlCSX2498 . You have a nice body part. Where did you get it? And how much it is? I should've also get that one. :D
|
Glad to hear the process was fairly seamless. I will have the fine opportunity to go the through same process with my Kirkham in November since I am moving to PA. Hopefully I can meet up with the PA cobra guys in the near future.
Mike |
Hey Mike, the PA process was very easy, MrMustang helped with some of the details and I was ready with all my receipts and paperwork for my scratch build. You will have an easier time because your car is already registered in another state.
Where in pennsylvania are you moving? we are in the south east just outside of philadelphia. I purchased the alum body from another club cobra member that had it sitting for several years. It is definately a one off. There is a vendor on ebay selling complete aluminum cobra bodies for 16,000.00 regards, karl |
I am moving to Greencastle which is near Chambersburg, PA. I am working just over the border in Maryland.
Did they give you some sort of tag that had to be riveted on to your car beyond a VIN number tag that says specialty construction or something like that? Thanks Mike |
Hey Mike, The DOT sent me a small ID plate that has a VIN number and it has special construction written across the top of hte plate. I had to rivet the plate to the firewall.
You will be a couple hrs away but not too far to attend some of the cobra events. good luck with the move, regards, karl |
Hi, Mike.
You'll be moving to my neck of the woods. I live in PA and work in Hagerstown. I'll PM you my cell number and please feel free to contact me if you need any assistance whatsoever. - Allen. |
1,000 miles on the scratch built 427
Hello, I have been driving the new Cobra every chance since last Sept. we did have a lot of snow & ice but if the sun was shining I was driving.
Just clicked 1,000 miles yesterday, no big problems to report. I have a small charging problem that I can not figure out. Later, Karl |

I've been meaning to stop over and check your car out again since you finished it, but I always seem to be busy on weekends. I'll try to find some time to stop over in the near future. Have you seen Bill's new toy yet? |
Great work. Any up to date photo's of the completed car?
Thanks |
foto,
This was just before all the snow & ice started, you can see the clecos in the hood scoop. The car is still bare aluminum and will be painted black, time & funds permitting.
http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...SC00316_1_.jpg You are welcome to stop by anytime, I did see the fotos of Bill's new car but I have not seen it in person. later, karl |
Very Nice. Looks great! That's quite an accomplishment.
