This is not even a fair question...the GT is the only answer on this site.

I would sacrifice my left n** or any other part of my body to own a Ford GT. I think my hairy butt crack would fit just in the drivers seat and I don't really care what anyone else thinks.

Hairy butt crack, Bill

PS A $100'000. corvette will be worth $25'000. in five years..where is the value?

There are several 2007/08/and now a couple of 09 Corvettes around here. When they drive by everyone looks and says nice vette. But there is one guy that owns a red with white stripes Ford GT and when he drive by all the people stare as long as they can see him and then talk about that car for quite a while. I would sure like to have it. And it sounds good too. I don't know if it has the turbo or not.

I have to say that when I saw the Aston Martin DBR (I think thats what it was) at the local Aston Dealer a week or so ago it took my breath away it was that gorgeous.

Nice choice Jamo, but loose those big gaudy italian watches. A nice Philippe Patek would be more appropriate for that car.

Pat I would also agree...

To put a different spin on things look at it this way.....The ZR1 with it's low production numbers puts it on track
with the L88's. It will likely become a collectors car in the
future and we don't know what will become super cars
under the current government. Sure they look similiar
to other Corvettes but they are not even close.

Ford has never built a production sports car unless you consider the Tbird of the mid 50's. Sure the GT was partly designed by Ford but it wasn't built by Ford. So it really is just another replica of something built in ancient times. Nothing special really.

Yeah I would take the ZR1 too.............

McDoo the real one

Agreed.

The Ford GT, not the GT40, is basically a poser car, IMO.

I was parked next to one recently and talked to the owner - he had no clue. All he was interested in was the fact that his car had a supercharger and a CD player. He said it was real fast.

Just look at most of the owners - Bony even bought one for chrissake!

ZR-1 is a serious piece of equipment.

What about it is a "Poser" car? What makes the ZR-1 a serious piece of equipment and GT not? You know more about cars than I do, so I would be interested in the basis of the opinion. (Not trying to light a roman candle under your a$$ )

Some have said that they like the heritage of the Ford GT. I'm not sure the Ford GT has any heritage at all. Currently, I am trying to decide between a Daytona Coupe and a GT 40 MKII. I have no interest at all in the Ford GT or the ZR1. They are both very nice cars and obviously both are flat-out bad-a$$ cars (particularly the ZR1) but I would much rather own a GT 40. My vote is "neither".

Have a great day. LOL

Evan...you probably saw a DBS, a more muy goodo version of the 12 cylinder DB9, but they all look similar. I like the V8...a nicer package IMO, and the price is closer to the Vette than the GT.

A PP is simply a small watch...like a Rolex. A Panerai is...well, a Panerai. It just happens to also measure time as a side benefit.

Pat...pretty much my thoughts, and the money saved would go a long ways towards having a nice GT40 parked next to the Vette.

The GT is a damn nice car...no question about it, and I wouldn't kick one out of bed for eating crackers, but it just doesn't justify the money versus the competition at that price IMO.

Default Go try 'em

If you can't decide, take them for a test drive. The Gateway Auto Museum and Resort has these to offer:

My wife and I went there last October and when we came in at night I saw them in the parking lot. Next morning I went out to take pictures of the awesome redrock scenery and got a chance to study them up close. There are:

2 x Ford GT
2 x Ferrari (model?)
2 x Aston Martin DB9
2 x Corvette Z06

For a mere $20K (which I interpreted to be a one time charge) you can go drive any or all of them for 5 days every year.

They get driven hard. I asked how they could open them up and one guy told me that they were going from Gateway to Telluride on one of the "country" roads and over the crest of a hill came a sheriff who just turned around and stopped. The guy told me when he looked down at the speedo he was going 135. At the next town there were two sheriffs in the road blocking. They stopped and the lead guy showed his business card. They all got a lecture and a verbal warning for going 60 in a 40.

If you ever get the chance go to the Museum. It's John Hendricks (the Discovery Channel guy) collection. All American cars, from the early 1900s to the muscle car era of the 1970s. His pride and joy is the Olds F88 prototype.

JWilly: The FGT has tremendous "heritage" and is true Ford based off Ford's1960 issue which are automotive icons and automotive GODS updated for today. It is a modern supercar version of the GT40 or what the GT40 would be today. Its an updated GT40. In fact the name "Ford GT" is actually the correct and official name for the GT40. The GT40 moniker came about from a press article noting the height of the car. They have always been technically and offically called Ford GTs by Ford then and now(aka popularly as the GT40). The remarkable thing about the FGT is that it is already considered an automotive icon in its own time. There are already several books on the FGT and its heritage.

I myself like both the Daytona Coupe and the GT40 MarkII or Mark I for that matter. Very hard choice but I would lean to the GT40 but then again I don't like the fact the windows don't open in the Safir GT40 and watching Alan De Cadenet in a "Victory by Design" video tearing down a road in an original Daytona Coupe made my mouth water. The sight and sound of that beast was awesome. They are both old school which is neat. The new FGT is an updated more liveable version of the GT40 and the windows actually go down!

The FGT is a great (and will be a classic just because of it's limited production) but to live with one is a different matter. Parking: unless you can find a wide spot, or take two, you my find yourself on all fours getting out or in. Don't even think of going on a road trip (unless you Fedx you luggage) there isn't enough room in the trunk for two pair of golf (driving shoes). Yet it's a very comfortable long distances driver. And yes it's not a car for the shy.

The ZR-1 on the other hand address all the short comings of the FGT for real Grand Touring traveling. and yet it's still not for the shy ether, yet it does have a blend in factor (and that's not really a bad thing).

Both have about the same real world driving dynamics (more hp and grip) then you could ever use safely on public roads.

My third choice: Audi R8, not as fast, cause about the same excitement at a gas station, and it's got four wheel drive, more room for socks when traveling, but is slower or should I say less powerful then the other two.

I base all this on the fact that I have lived with all three: OK its a Z06, but I do have some seat time in the new ZR1.

What do I really want? A Cobra roadster, white, black guts. Its all about the basic Sports Car.

Mark.

The Ford GT absolutely LOOKS the best of the three (Vette, Viper, GT).
The ZR-1 has the best performance of the three.
You and others have to LOOK at these cars every day. It is a rare day when the potential "race-car-ness" of these three cars is attainable.

Another vote for the Ford GT.

Wheatie -

Did I say the GT wasn't a serious piece of equipment? I re-read my post and don't see that.

I say the GT is a poser car from the kind of people who buy them - to a person every owner I have talked to was more interested in how many people watch him then how the car runs. For sure they are fast - I'm not disputing that.
