I hope you don't mind Sal but I rewrote your message to reflect reality :

GT-40 for me...just a note on F vs C. my hard core Chevy buddy, he's got an old 65 Vette, 61 348 rag top, Camaro drag car...his daily drivers are all Chevy...he would love a GT 40!

"The FGT won the European FIA Championship series in 2008." by Real 1
I did go to the site you (R1) provided a link to. The FGT won the 2008 "Team" (4 cars in the team) Championship of the GT3 class. From what I gather, the GT3 class is for developing amateur drivers for the GT1 and 2 classes (source is Wikipedia). All of the cars in the GT3 class are to be prepared so that they have similar power and handling (apparently to make it more of a competition between drivers). Although the FGT did very well in GT3 competition and the answer to my question is yes, they are raced. I don't think that in the future, one can look back and say that this established a strong heritage of racing. Whatever...the FGT is still a fine car and I won't argue that.

I think I already made the choice. If I could only have one I would pick the ZR1. In 2007 I chose a Z06 over the Ford GT and a Viper Coupe. To me the Ford is a better investment, better looking, much more exclusive and maybe slightly better performance than the Z06. I chose the Z06 because it is much more user friendly. I can use it as a daily driver. I took it on a 6,700 mile trip and got 25.5 MPG. Drove it 840 miles one day. I'm 6'6" and find it more comfortable on a long drive than our Lexus LS430. I don't fit in a stock GT but from what I read it could be altered to fit me for about $1,500. The biggest problem for me is that the Ford GT has no storage. You must also be careful where you park it because you can't open the door if someone parks next to you.
As far as the Viper ACR being faster than the ZR1 at the Nurburgring it's basically a race prepared Viper. It runs DOT competition tires where the ZR1 uses runflats.

Talk about hitting the nail on the head...
I already have an "eye-catching" gosh-all-powerful toy, the Cobra. IMO, I don't need another one. ...and yes, the FGT is DROP DEAD GORGEOUS
I want a stunning performance daily driver.. Why not??? My C6 Z06 is the daily driver now, 37K (s)miles in just over 2 years. I get 27 mph on trips with 427 cubic inches, combined mpg is 21. It put down 509 rwhp on the chassis dyno 1 month ago and will do around 201/202 mph, if I ever needed . It's also over 400 lbs lighter than the FGT. I have a 100K/5yr drive train warranty (same with the ZR1) and have carried a 47" LCD TV (in the box) home from Costco in the back of it
Point is... the ZR1 has all this utility of my Z06, a little worse on fuel economy and a bit heavier, but carries performance to the next OMG level.
For my needs I'd unequivocally vote ZR1!
...the nod would be towards the FGT for the WOW factor and it being more of a boy toy though, in spite of the weenie Triton power plant.

CobraDan: I don't see a FGT in the pictures. Where is it???
The next poll will be FGT or the CobraDan pic chick.
Every man has his price...I'll take her over the FGT.

Tough choice
I love all three.
I once had a GT 40 from South Africa. Never really got it right and then sold it before I could really enjoy it. I loved that car.
Got to go with the Ford GT.
Even in the 60s, that car was years ahead of its time.

Ford GT or Corvette ZR1
In my opinion value for money the ZR1 is a fantastic car, good mpg etc, a bit like the Aussie Monaro one hell of a car they both compete well with their european counterparts. The Ford GT has that timeless look, like the ZR1 they both have cut off rear ends, but the ZR1 looks quite unusual due to the depth of the boot!

I currently own a Cobra and I recently sold my 1990 ZR1 so I can kinda of relate to this thread.
I know that I will be flamed for this, but isn't this the "All Cobra Talk" forum. Can we not keep on target? I come to this web site and forum to talk about Cobras. Not Chevys or GT 40s.
