Aw come on you can't be serious. Automotive GODS !!!! Give me a break. Heritage my ass. Ford couldn't do it so they got Shelby to run the team cause they couldn't do it along with the Mustang. Just give it up.

Sorry Pat. I won't bite in fact I'll agree...here it goes....uh umm (clearing throat) "Yup, your right Pat, whatever you say...the FGT is a poser car alright."

Have a great day. LOL
Evan -

I was giving my opinion relating to my vote on a poll that you (seemingly) posted in an unbiased manner....why do you think I'm chumming?

I'm starting to get the idea that perhaps you are biased and knowing what a poser you really are, would have no doubt that you probably already own a GT and just posted this poll as a kinda pathetic way to tell everyone.....that's it, isn't it? LOL.

I see that, true to form, you are already pumping your choice....

I quote:

"JWilly: The FGT has tremendous "heritage" and is true Ford based off Ford's1960 issue which are automotive icons and automotive GODS updated for today. It is a modern supercar version of the GT40 or what the GT40 would be today. Its an updated GT40. In fact the name "Ford GT" is actually the correct and official name for the GT40. The GT40 moniker came about from a press article noting the height of the car. They have always been technically and offically called Ford GTs by Ford then and now(aka popularly as the GT40). The remarkable thing about the FGT is that it is already considered an automotive icon in its own time. There are already several books on the FGT and its heritage."

Sad.

Pat, I always respect your opinion, but come on now. The Corvette is the undisputed definition of a poser car. Go to any car show and 9 out of 10 new Corvette owners are mid life crisis money guys with leather Corvette jackets, Corvette sneakers, Corvette hats, Corvette leather driving gloves, matching Corvette chairs, a die cast of their car sitting on the engine on a battery operated spinning plate, and COMPLETELY stock cars.

If I'm going to be a poser, I'd at least want to have an interesting car that people want to look at, even if I knew nothing about it.

Well, technically speaking, the ZR1 has "heritage" too. Now, mind you, not as much as the GT40, but it still does have some "heritage" from its origin in 1970.

Leno, of course, has one:

The guy that I met was taking pictures at the same time I was of the sunlight on the peaks. He later told me that he was driving the automatic Ferrari with paddle shifters because he wasn't comfortable driving supercars on mountain roads and the auto was just "safer". He rated them:

Ferrari
Ford GT
Aston Martin
Corvette.

He said the manual transmission Ferrari would be his choice to by because eventually you would figure it out. He said the Ford GT was "too much a race car" - which it is. The Aston was far too civilized - power seats, A/C, cup holders, etc. And the 'Vette was just another vette.

Any car that you can reach behind you and pet it on the head of the supercharger when it does a good job gets my vote . Yeah, GT.

The Ferrari's in the pictures were good though.

Hey! I don't own a Vette jacket or anything else. Mine is my work car...delivering 24mpg during the entire 2008 year. The only mid-life crises I have that's associated with the Vette is figuring out how to get out of the sumb!tch when I really got to go bad.

That being said (and as I said earlier), it and the GT are both Hot Wheels cars IMO.

Turk didn't give you the cool Corvette jacket?

I distinctly remember seeing it when we drove your car. It was black leather, with C5 embroidered on the back in red with a Corvette in the "C", really nice, looked like it was at least a $700 item.

He said it came with the car.

Having been around both units I have to vote GT over the corvette. Now throw a Mark IV in the mix and I may buy it.........

Implication is one was serious and therefore the the other not.

With respect to "Poser" status I would tend to agree with you. However, the agruement can be made that 90% of people who bring cars to car shows are "posers" since that is exactly what why they attend... to show off their cars. Some car show attendee's know more about their cars and some know less (I'll admit to this category). Some could car less about how they and their car looks (I am in this category) and some it is all they car about, regardless of the car they bring.

Just a thought.

This whole argument to me is sorta like "Do you like rocky road or moose tracks better?"

To me the modern FGT is a street car built to look like the racing FGT of the 60's. I suppose it is just me but I just cannot connect these two together very well in terms of heritage. Question: Is the modern FGT seriously raced?

Well as to the "poser"allegation, I plead guilty. In fact I'm proud of it. Yup. No problem.

Fact of the matter is most of us are "posers". There is a minority here that seriously track their cars and can drive them to their potential but the rest....give me a break....That includes anyone who professes not to be a "poser" by implication by casting the "poser stones" as to others unless they car to enlighten us with their hardcore racing credentials.

Just take a look on that salvage site linked above. Theres the proof. Many guys who own FGT, Vipers, Vettes or any other high performance cars have more money then brains demonstrated by their belief they can drive any one of these cars to its potential.

Many here own these cars because they are performance car enthusiasts. Call them posers or whatever you want but we each own these cars (Cobras, FGTs, Vettes, Vipers, Ferraris, Lambos etc..) for reasons that we enjoy. There is no need to explain or justify ownership to anyone especially to those motivated by sour grapes to throw stones.

This thread was started because I saw that there was alot of interest here in the new ZR1 and its natural comparison to the FGT. My Avatar has noted my FGT for nearly 1 1/2 years now. The response to this thread has been lively and civil and responsive to the question. Unfortunately there are some little petty minds here that can't resist trying to throw some stones or aspersions. The usual group.

As far as pumping my choice, I didn't pump at all. I post the question and asked for votes. Besides we all have favorites and biases. Mine is unashamedly the FGT. Anyway seems the majority here picked the FGT overwhelmingly and even those on the Vette site agree with the majority here as to which they would pick. I certainly didn't pump on the Vette site, if thats what you say I did here (which I didn't). It was just a poll based on discussion and debate in a prior poll. Get over it!

JWilly: The FGT won the European FIA Championship series in 2008. Check out www.matech-concepts.ch/

Matech is coming to the US for 2009. Watch out Vette boys and to borrow a phrase from Jermey Clarkson the FGTs will be hunting for those "(Ferrari) aristocratic weenies" Watch out here come the FGTs!

"Keeping the legend alive". Go Matech!

No history or heritage that I can see! ROFLMAO

Oh, yeah, here are some of those weenie poser FGTs at work.

I thought the way that I read the first post this was just about which car would you prefer and not which was the fastest, best, or anything else. I believe in my original post where I said that I would prefer the Ford GT, I also stated the ZR-1 was probably the fastest and best performance car. And I also noted that there are two or three new Corvettes here and that there is one Ford Gt and when He drives up everyone ignores the Corvettes. One Corvette driver got so mad that he left. But that is all junk and really doesn't have anything to do with the way I interpreted the poll. I don't care about Heritage, 640 horsepower and records on the track in this case as I just answered with the car that I would prefer. Really no need for anyone to get bent out of shape. Besides my 1965 Comet with the two barrel 289 and automatic will serve me the rest of my life. It even beat a Corvette over to the dam as a Piece fell off and cause the Corvette to have a flat.

X2. On the way to work this morning I thoroughly enjoyed the freeway off ramp at 60+ that was labeled at 30. I think the driver of the car at the bottom (that I approached rather abruptly before the stock brakes stopped her with plenty of room to spare) shiaat in his pants.

Say what you will about 'Vettes. They make awesome daily drivers. Still would rather have a FGT, but I'm blessed with driving my 7 year old Chevy.

Just responding to some comments posted by some detractors and some questions as to whether the FGT is currently racing in competition.

Also thought you guys might enjoy the videos

I just read the February Motor Trend at the doctors office, and they had a shootout between the ZR1, Ferrari 599, Porsche GT2, and the Nissan GTR. Well the ZR1 topped the other three cars hands downs. The ZR1 ran 11.2 in the 1/4, and they said they ran it to 202 mph on the track, and said it was still pulling. It was faster, handled better, and had better brakes than the rest of the field.

I will still take the GT (actually I would rather build a SPF GT-40 with a monster motor) but the ZR1 is a car to be reckoned with.

No question the ZR1 is a performance beast. I read the same article last night.

I would love to own one too, however, on the other thread the performance litmus test seemed to be Nurburgring times. If thats so the the Viper ACR is top dog and as a limited production car at a lesser price then the ZR1 it may be a better choice then the ZR1. No?

While the ZR1 bested the FGT at the Ring, the FGTs time was equal to the Bugatti Veyron. That alone is way impressive. Whoa!

Any of those cars on that Nurburgring list under 8 minutes are capable of eyeball crushing performance and speeds mere mortals can't comprehend or control.
