CSX 2142: RM Auctions

Details and history on CSX 2142
http://www.rmauctions.com/FeatureCar...arID=r188&fc=0
" Pair of ’63-vintage racing icons up for bid
Searching for muscle cars at most RM auctions can make you feel like the guy who walks into Tavern on the Green and orders a sloppy joe. But that never keeps your intrepid muscle car correspondent from giving up hope, and sure enough, lurking among the dual cowl phaetons and 2+2 grand touring drophead coupes at RM’s Amelia Island sale, we found this deliciously matched pair of Eisenhower-era American V-8-powered road race legends: a ’63 AC/Shelby Cobra and a ’63 Z06 Corvette.
The Cobra up for sale is chassis CSX 2142, one of two AC Cobra Roadsters to race in the 1963 Le Mans. It was the first car fitted with an alloy hardtop, which improved its aerodynamics and increased its top speed at Le Mans. It was also outfitted with a 30.8-gallon fuel tank, hood scoops, side cooling vents and light alloy Dunlop wheels. The car was entered in the race by Ed Hugus, Shelby’s East Coast representative, who shared the wheel of the white and blue Cobra with Peter Jopp. After 10 hours, the Cobra was forced to retire with engine problems. The car’s complete history is posted in RM’s auction description, as is the preauction price estimate: $1 million - $1.4 million.
Slightly more civilized than the Cobra, but no less significant (and quite a bit less expensive), is a ’63 Z06 Corvette also up for grabs at RM’s Amelia Island sale. The Z06 was an off-the-shelf SCCA-legal B-Production road racer missing only roll-over bars and a fire extinguisher. Under the hood was a 360hp fuel-injected 327 backed by a Muncie M21 close-ratio transmission. Race-ready suspension minus the production car’s steering damper was part of the package, as was a 36.5-gallon fuel tank.
The Z06 consigned to RM (lot 287) underwent a five-year restoration and earned a 98-percent scoring at National and Regional NCRS events in addition to a Top Flight award. The car’s story is available on RM’s site and this desirable Corvette is expected to fetch $225,000–$300,000. "

That thing is sweet, it would be nice to save some good little video clips like that.

That is one of my all time favorite cars! One I'd like to replicate someday.
Thanks for sharing that link!

So the car remains unsold ,maybe someone has looked further into the history of the car.

Wow, didn't even reach a million.
I think the economy is hitting the vintage car market as well.

I was light on liquidity, so I even offered to give the owner this pick up truck along with my $790K bid, but he said he didn't like the color.
