I had only 3" with my deep sump oil pan. Pulled it off last night and put a stock pan back on. This gained almost a full 2". Brian

Originals had a little more than the frame clearance as they were just above the rails. Very dependant on the ride height.

I started out with 3". Then I put on coilovers, all four corners and replaced my stock pan with one 1" shorter. After ride height adjustment I picked up 3 additional inches. I can go over speed bumps now without fear!

I'm presently at 4.5", which is roughly the same clearance as the front oil cooler shroud and my cut-down McLeod safety bellhousing. Pic was taken from an angle so it looks a little less here.

I changed my oil pan because of a PA inspection criteria called "scrub line". This is measured by taking string from the lowest point of the rim on one wheel and then extending to the opposite wheel where the tire touches the ground. Perform this for the opposite side as well. Where the lines intersect is the lowest point that PA states nothing shall lie below. This is in case you get a flat tire so you are not scraping the road. My oil pan fell below this, thus the reason to get a shorter one. Brian

Mine in 3 1/2 inches. The front crossmember is about 4". A little scary to think that the pan is lower than the frame. Hope I/we do not run over anything on the road.

Hot Rods/ Street Rods have the scrub line requirement in a lot of states. That is if you let all the air out of all the tires at once no part of the car will scrape the road (except the rims).

I wouldn't let it hang below the frame rails. That's just asking for trouble, IMO.

Measure the distance from the pan rail to the bottom of the frame rail. On my car, it's 7 3/4". I have a 7qt pan from Canton that's 7 1/2" deep.
