Crap!!! My neighbor comes over this afternoon to discuss a moisture problem at his house. Me being the good guy that I am went to take a look at the problem. In the 10 minutes I was gone the UPS dude had been by and left a tag saying he was here and will be back tomorrow after 5:00pm needing a signature. It is my heads and other goodies from Keith Craft..yes!! So I don't get to fondle my goodies tonight but looking foward to tomorrow evening!

just caught this thread so I'm late on answering but I like the responses.
I started off with the old-timers goal of 1hp per cubic inch. Having owned a 65' Mustang w/289, I always felt that 200hp seemed kinda lame for such a great looking car.

So when it came time to build my engine (I think everyone should do it at least once in their life), my short-block 347's goal was 347HP.

When I finally finished it and installed it into my FFR w/3.55 gears and T5 tranny out of a 91' Mustang, it produced 355 HP / 385 ft.-lbs. (4th gear pull). This was before the replacement of the Holley Street Avenger to a Barry Grant 650DP and Wilsons 1" spacer.

For the last 4 years, this engine has never failed to impress me. Very streetable, never overheats, never broke the drivetrain (using a T-Bird IRS) but I can only smoke the tires in 1st. It would be kinda neat to smoke them in 2nd too

But to be honest, I'd draw the limit at 500HP if I could afford to do one more engine (but have some pro do the work.) Time to start saving up.

Sorry - just could not help it following the avatar discussion - this is way too much - and no you are not drunk

just shy of 500 on the wheels is more than enough... - it is more about HOW the power is managed - hence a EFI makes the response more direct and "easy" to manage.

I have a 460 rousch in mine at about 500 foot # of torque and it will bite you instantly if you let it . I had a smaller engine in another cobra and you had a short time for it to wring up. As you go up in torque the reaction to the torque becomes instant so you better be able to handle it before you stomp it. Driving under power becomes a finess thing.

289fia,
Are you saying you made some nice gains by replacing your Holly Street Avenger? Just curious to hear about your results. I currently have the 770 Street Avenger in my 390fe. I took off the choke horn but wouldn't mind replacing the whole carb if there is a good reason to.

Thanks,
John
