Not true. The buy it now option dissapears once the first bid is placed (unless it's got a reserve, then it stays till the reserve price is met). Once the buy it now is gone, you can bid it to as high as you want.

The introduction of the 4750 series cars had them at 39k. Then they went to 42k, 49k, 56k, and now I think they are 59k.

I disagree. The listing does not show a reserve price. I've bought a bunch of stuff on eBay. If I enter the "buy it now" price, it's mine. There's no reserve in this auction.

In some auctions, they'll list the starting bid at a lower price than the "buy it now" price. For some reason, they listed the starting bid the same as the "buy it now" price.

Didn't realize it was just a roller.

I can imagine the emails he's getting:

"But, I can get a FFR roller for $14995..."

I meant in general, not particularly this auction. Obivously in this auction, it makes no sense how they listed it. If the opening bid is the same as the buy it now price, it should just be a fixed price auction with no bidding.

But on other auctions, if say the opening bid is $15 and the BIN is $20 (and there is no reserve), if someone bids $15 the BIN disappears. Now say the opening bid is $15, the BIN is $20, and there is an $18 reserve, the BIN will stay there till someone bids over $18.

Well, it's the old "strategery" of "If you can't sell it at $43,995, then why not raise the price to $49,995 (and not sell it)."

Nope, he saw you guys were about to bid, cancelled the listing and relisted it at $49,995.

I was waiting for someone to put a bid in and realize that they bought it.

I think they blew it on the original listing. If someone is interested, they should go direct and say "hey, I saw the original listing and I'll give you $43.9K." Guess what....they'll take it and run right now.

what a fruit bat. -- cancel and crank up the price - what a worm. and I have a Spare 410FE and A Tremec TKO laying about....

HOWEVER --it would be good to know that the suspension is not going to cave.

Their strategy regarding how the price is represented (starting bid and buy it now price are the same) makes no sense at all.

If they were smart they would have a min bid, reserve, and buy it now price. That way, they can always lower the reserve and make a sale if they choose to.

el, thanks for including the link. I forgot it.

Raising the price after not selling the item at a lower price seems to be a very common strategy. I'm not sure what "it" is, but I'm sure the reasoning is sound.

D&M in Glen Ellen, IL just recently employed the same strategy on a SPF MKII GT40. The bidding got up to $55,000 +/- and the BIN price was $59,800. The roller did not sell. Then a few days later, the same car was relisted by D&M with a BIN price of $69,800. I don't get it.

OK, now the price has been lowered to a starting bid of $41K and a BIN price of $42K. What's up with this guy's pricing strategy?

Well, at least you know the reserve price is between 40,995 and 41,995.

The seller also lowered the reserve price, so maybe 40,996 will take it. Very strange.

The seller's price is up and down like the stock market. It certainly doesn't give me any comfort regarding the seller's integrity. The car is interesting though.

They have the car listed on their website for $59.9K, although the description of the car shows an MSRP of $56.9.

Authorized dealer, but a very confusing sales strategy.
