Default fuel level gauge for a 4000

has anyone put a fuel level gauge in a 4000? mine has a fuel pressure gauge in the dash but i would like to change it to a level gauge and put the pressure one in the glove box. is the wiring harness pre wired for one? the Fuel Safe cell #224999 has a sending unit on it. i'm aware with the cell, level is not accurate but i would like some idea what i have without headding to a station every 75 mi. the mileage changes quite a lot between street and highway driving. thank you in advance for your help.

I added a Shelby Fuel level gage right next to the Fuel Pressure Gage. So I have four gages on the top row, not what they came with but I like it.

You have a Centroid sender in the fuel cell. Go to http://www.centroidproducts.com/fsafe.pdf to find out how to adjust the sender with full or empty tank settings. It's pretty easy to do, but the fuel level is never accurate nor linear. It starts moving off of Full when it's really half a tank. Could never get it to move uniformly due to the fact that the sensor is bent in the cell. Anyway, better than counting mileage.

The Kirkham's make a speedometer that has an LED fuel level gauge. I think having the fuel pressure gauge within sight is a good thing to have in order to diagnose any problems in real time.

The fuel sender is compatible with the Autometers, Shelby guages (made by Autometer) and the Smiths if you have a guage in the 33-240 ohm range. As Tom says they don't work all that well as the sender tube has been bent for a front entry into the tank which doesn't make much sense to me as a tank builder. The sender is a nice set up and needs calibrating per http://www.centroidproducts.com/3wire.htm I prefer the two wire as they eliminate the need for a hot wire running the length of the car. Basically if you pull the sender out and empty it of fluid, hook it to your guage (ignition on) and set the empty level screw. Submerse the tube in a can of gas and set the full screw. Reinstall it and don't trust it under 1/2 tank...........
