What kind of fiberglass for a muffler?
The wimpy fiberglass packing around my baffles blew down to the end and I ripped the remains of it out, but things are more than a TAD louder this way. Even the high performance auto parts store owner who'd been just retired in February after 30+ years didn't have an answer for me. What kind of packing material should I use to pack the outside of a baffle? Fiberglass works I've heard but is there a brand name? Are all fibreglass muffler materials equal? What if any is the role of steel wool? Is there an ideal packing density for muffling? Has anyone repacked their own muffler and found the right material, been satisfied or been disappointed? (I plan to wrap and attach this packing with high temp wire).
