Default Brock Coupe at BJ Palm Beach

Did I really see a SPF Brock Coupe go for $61,000? What's wrong with that picture?

Barrett-Jackson has jumped the shark. I suspect there is a reason why CSX 2601 is selling at Mecum next month.

Someone made the buy of the year on that deal! Low miles too. Pays to have the cash to play! Badger

Hey Badger, that price must have made you feel really good inside! Nothing like a giant knot in the pit of your stomach! My wife was wondering why I was choking while watching TV. I noticed that the BJ people were trying to keep sharp objects away from the seller!

That was a great buy and I think if I remember correctly that at one time B.J. did allow Reserves but then decided that they weren't selling every vehicle and it would enhance their profits and name if the did away with the reserve. As noted, Mecum's and other top auction companies are now starting to get the real top notch cars because they allow reserves.

Don't forget that the seller could have out bid the final buyer. You will pay BJ the buyers commission on the hammer price as well as your sellers fee but you will still own the car minus all fees after the hammer drops. You'll be out some money but you won't be trashed by almost having to give the car away. No reserve auctions have two types of players. The first is the person looking to steal and the second is the person looking to rape. If you're lucky you walk out a stealer. If not, you walk out not as a rapist but as the raped. School can be expensive.

I think the seller fee is 8 or 10% and the buyers fee is 10%

20% to buy back your car

Default That's the market...

I have been shoping for coupe's and GT's for about 6 months now and like houses if you want to sell them you have to meet the market price... the last two SPF GT 40's (with the Roush 427's) sold for 75k and there is a new CAV (small block and webbers) for sale at 62K...that is all the money that is out there, reserve or not...

I didn't see it on TV but did on the summary today. Wow, that was a steal. I did OK on my CSX in January, but now I'm disappointed I didn't go to Florida.

Plus it has A/C - we could have driven that one on trips. I'd have to teach my wife to pack light though.

Commodore; a $12000 "haircut" is a pretty expensive lesson!
You have to wonder what the people at Hilbank, and down in South Africa think when they see this sort of thing occur?

Powerslide...no pit in my stomach...:0) If I'd have been there I would have bought it in a heartbeat! What a deal. The only thing better than owning one coupe is having TWO! This pretty much guarantees that no one else will ever risk selling without a reserve. Those wise to the price paid at BJ will be on the lookout for future "no reserve" sales (if any dare that risk) Bmart buyers will line up, if any come up for sale, and the next sale will go higher. Default I suspect that ...

the stock market may recover to something around 9200 this year...but the economy not till 1st or 2nd quarter of 2010....but I will be surprised if the "cobra" market recovers before 2012 if then....there has been a fundamental change in the consumer...but...we shall see...

Bartuffi....You may be right on the "recovery" of the stock market. I happen to think it'll get worse before better, but then I'm a conservative:0) The real truth is we have no control over our futures. Whatever the "real money" that runs this world wants it'll get. We're just spectators. Just watch the market align your self with the major players and wait out the intended cycle. Buy low... sell high:0) There will still be some good buys out there if you are patient and careful. Good luck. If you want my advice...the Brock Coupe is a far more comforable and useable automobile. GT40s looks trick but that fades after a few hundred miles. Join the Coupe Group..you won't go wrong! :0) :0) Badger

Default I couldn't agree more...

the trend is your friend and I am just along for the ride... I have always wanted a GT40 so I won't be happy till I get one...the Ford GT's are available now for less than 120k...and I am thinking that next spring there might be some for less than 100k...... I have heard from several people that have owned both that the Coupe is the BOMB...but....it will have to wait...

The BJ folks are going along on this ride, along with all the other auction houses, however their "no reserve" policy is putting them in a more stressful position. Market forces can only allow a limited amount of "positive spin" on a tough situation. There were bright spots; especially if you were selling Oldsmobile 4-4-2's or sixty year old pick-up trucks. Like "Badger" says, if you got the cash, its a buyer's market!

I watched many cars, including the SPF Coupe, sell for far less than what was expected, but I doubt the Sellers were pissed at BJ. BJ would not have made any promises about what a car might bring and I figure anybody with enough gusto to buy a car like that Coupe should be able to take their medicine if they decide to sell it no reserve in a recession at a circus like Barrett-Jackson. There were probably a lot of cars that sold this weekend with little forethought, whose proceeds will go to stall a home foreclosure or help pay a little more tuition at college for son or daughter. Just my.02c worth.

Is that .02c in 2006 or 2009 dollars?
