Default What kind of car did you learn to drive in?

I've been spending time getting caught up on some car shows that I had Tivo'd. Tonight, I watched Wheeler Dealers on HD Theater and they were doing a light restoration on an MGB GT.

I got a kick out of the episode since my dad had a 1971 MBG GT and it was the car that I learned to drive in. I even took my driving test in the car. He'd toss me the keys and I'd be gone for the day when I started driving.

Extremely underpowered, but a pretty fun car to toss around.

BTW - First car that I owned was a 71 Datsun 510 2-door. Lowered, sway bars, etc. ...that car handled pretty darn well!

First vehicle I drove was my fathers Chevy truck. Three speed column shift.
The car I really learned to drive in though was my parents 67 VW Squareback. Also took my drivers test in it.

Driver Education Car at fifteen and a half years old. Received my license two weeks after I turned 16.

Early 70's Plymouth Duster 340 4-SPEED Hurst with a heavy clutch. Red with a white 340 Duster Stripe down the side. Crazy!

A tractor for me too. I started with a Farmall Cub in 1963. It was ancient when I started driving it. I mowed 7 acres with it, and finally earned the priveledge to drive into town for some shopping for mom. Because I behaved myself I was allowed to use it to get to the public pool across town too. Then I moved onto a 64 beetle at 13......i2f

Default 63 John Deere tractor

63 John deere tractor at age 12, Got my first CJ-5 and 16 1/2. Still have the jeep and a couple of others that I raced. Only have the orginial dash and steering column, drinking and big oak trees don't mix. I did see the light, through the blood. It's all good. Learned my lesson. Been dry for 34 years. Rick L

One Saturday when I was 13 and my dad was full of beer, I talked him into buying me an old 41 Ford coupe for $35.00. He asked me if I could drive it home (about two blocks) and I said no problem. My 10 year old brother and I jumped into the car and drove the old Ford directly to the gas station, put $2 bucks worth of gas in it and cruised around town (Burbank ,Ca.) for two hours.
Luckily for me, I never saw a cop and most importantly didn't crash the thing, so life was golden on that day in time....1955.
By the way my dad had a 55 Buick Century..man that thing sure could peal rubber.

Bill
