Thanks for getting it stuck in my head again...
Driving over the hill at 6:30 to get to work seemed like a good idea, until I stepped out on my front stoop and saw frost on my neighbor's roof. Hhmmm, better bring the hat AND the gloves. Even with gloves, I couldn't feel my fingertips by the time I got to work.
Was at Evergreen College at 11am. Engine and paperwork inspected, sticker placed on an inner trunk panel, paperwork completed. Time to go back to the DMV and finish the process.
So far, I haven't found the registration process to be much trouble. SB-100, CHP inspection, and BAR inspection have all gone pretty well. I hope my last visit to the DMV goes as smoothly.

Some guys have all the luck. There's always balance in life. Some people have it easy (Doug) and some have it excruciatingly difficult (me).

From the guy driving the Kirkham. One or two thing went right for you...or you married up.

Let's see, I invested in Citibank at $40. Ooops, nope that can't be it. It's $3.
There are two axioms in life.
1. In life, there are two kinds of people. Those with guns and those that dig. (Clint Eastwood in The Good, The Bad and The Ugly).
2. Most importantly. Either you are born rich or you marry rich.
I dig.

That follows my "buy high, sell low, try to make more money to make up for it all" strategy.
Damn...I should have married rich.

There's always the higher volume strategy and make up the difference.

I could have married money instead of digging??? Damn!
Okay, some guys have all the luck? The same day I had the smooth CHP inspection, I spent 6-10 in the evening with my son in the hospital, who is undergoing chemo treatment for Leukemia and had spiked a fever. Today, after my swimmingly smooth BAR referee visit, I spent 7-11 in the evening back in the same hospital room for more of the same. Given a choice, I think I'd pick a difficult experience with the CHP and BAR referee.
Not to itch-bay and oan-may too much, but it's been a long day. Hard to come home and excitedly exclaim, "Yes! I got my sticker!" when the key objective on arrival is a departure to the hospital asap.
Nevertheless, I'm happy to be making incremental progress on the Cobra build. I think I may just try my chances at the DMV on Friday to finish up my paperwork and get some plates...
You know, when I think about it, I don't think I'd want to marry rich. I'd much rather be out in the blazing sun with a shovel than standing around the Neiman Marcus costmetics counter holding my rich wife's designer purse while she shops...

Well, there is one other option I didn't mention.
A. Be born rich.
B. Marry rich.
C. Be Bill Gates or Steve Jobs.

Well, I didn't know ANY of those options were available. Little late to tell me now...
To DMV (on Friday), or not to DMV. That is the question.

If you have an appointment, then do it. Should take less than an hour assuming Jody the manager is there. If she's not there, then skip it.

Doug,
Agree with Rodney. Also, if it was like Steve's appt, they'll bring in the mob to try to shake you down for more money.
Sorry to hear about Cameron...hope he's feeling better.

I've found that having an appointment only lets me go in the "short" line, but I still get a number and have to wait (and wait... and wait...).
I may through the die and see what comes of it.
Could this be the end of my run of good luck?
Shake down for more cash? What happened to Steve?

Just checked the weather. Looks like rain beginning tonight.
They want the car there, or just the paperwork?

No need to take the car, just the paperwork.
BTW - Here's the thread with Steve's account of his visit. I didn't have a problem, it just depends on the rep you get...and whether Jody is there to straighten their a$$es out.
I have plates >>!!!

When you get to the appointment line to get your number (and wait), make sure the guy who looks like he should have been in Berkeley in the '60's knows that you already have been to the CHP for your VIN assignment. Otherwise, what happened with me, the first counter guy was so abrupt and quick to get me on my way through the system, he sent me through the car line in the back for their onsite DMV VIN inspector to look at your car. That's unnecessary! You have already received your CHP paperwork. He later apologized, but it slowed me down a bit. I brought my car, but as Doug said, you do not need to bring it.

Me and the paperwork will likely give it a shot tomorrow. Hopefully, Jody will be there to ease the process. If not, I might elect to come back another day. I'd like to get it done, but my TOP is good through June.
Read some of Steve's account. Immediately had flashbacks of Apocalypes Now: "The horror... The horror..."

Wear your flu mask and you'll probably fit right in. Don't forget your passport...OK...I've gone too far.

Yeah, Baby! Yeah! Got plates!
Went to the DMV this am, no appointment, waited in the long line, then waited for my number to be called up.
Submitted my paper, the clerk did one, very quick consultation with the manager, entered my data, gave me plates and stickers, and wished me a happy weekend.
I was expecting waterboarding.

Congratulations Doug! You just never know what the level of service or expertise is going to be when you visit the DMV.
You're 100% legal and smog exempt...woo hoo!
