Default HEI Distributor for 351W

Hi Everyone,

Still working on getting my car running partly because I keep adding things to make it just right for me and partly because my mechanic has less free time than I do. At any rate, we were discussing the distributor which is currently just a stock Ford 351W distributor and coil. I had wanted to replace it with an HEI unit but Mickey has not be able to come up with a unit that he feels will work the way things are set up currently. The only units he has been able to come up with that would have the necessary clearances are for Chevy engines.

I have the long oval Cobra air cleaner and the Kirkham billet purge tank (really beautiful if you haven't seen one yet). The issue is that there is very little room left for the distributor without hitting either the air cleaner or the tank.

Does anyone have any suggestions on a HEI distributor that would have a small diameter and short height that might work for my set up.

Thanks.

Mike

You probably won't find one. HEI types tend to be bulky, with big caps. Got to have the coil in there, and the coil is bulky.

Mallory is about the smallest cap and shortest height I could find.

Thanks.

I think he may be overly cautious as many other cars are running Mallory with similar set ups so I wouldn't think that my set up is that much different. I'll pass on the information and some pictures of other cobras so he'll have something to compare.
