Hello Frank, try and call me today so we can chat about flooring options. We race sprint cars tonight if, it does not rain AGAIN !

After seeing several floors using epoxy paint, I will never use it for many reasons. Here is a link to "SwissTrax". Jay Leno and several Nascar teams us it, as you'll see on the site.

This will be set up going only from me, until you're ready to buy, just like with my group buy for the Billboard tires and the 2-post garage lift. Then I will have everyone contact my sales person for payment.

I don't know if you were able to read my email but, I'm not, employed by the company, I just like to share good products and pricing for all of us. I plan on setting up another "Group Buy" here on CC next week. Were all getting 30% off per sq. ft. WOO-HOO ! lol.

Thanks for everyones opinions... I am now leaning towards U Coat It...I just dont like the Diamond pattern or Circle pattern on the Deck styled tiles and would prefer a flat ,plain tile but cant seems to get anything under $2.00 per tile.
At 400 sq feet to cover , even $2.00 is hard for me to do , so thats why U Coat It seems to be the way i will go , unless someone knows another route for me to try.Race Deck has quoted me $1000+ for their tiles and nearly $700 for everyone elses.. with U Coat It at just under $500 , of which i believe i would be patient enough to do... But.. as i said , would be willing to look at other options..
Again , Thanks to all of you and your opinions.

Frank

I think the U coat it would be a good choice. I used the rustoleum and it is ok but if I were to do it over I would go with the U coat it. I would also recomment the clear coat as it cleans up easier and looks a little nicer. Either way you will like it, spills clean up very easily.

I used UCoat it and would highly recommend it- great stuff. Went on easy and was very durable. A good result is dependent on the prep work - if you are not starting with a new slab of fresh concrete, follow the instructions on the prep work closely.

The tiles I'm talking about is similar to Race Deck but better and lower cost. After seeing several floors using epoxy paint, I will never use it for many reasons. Here is a link to "SwissTrax". Jay Leno and several Nascar teams us it, as you'll see on the site.

Similar to Ucoat It, Costco offers EpoxyGuard.

My previous neighbor used it with great results. Good surface prep is the key to success. (Isn't it always that way when painting?)

Go to www.costco.com and search item # 283347. $239.99/480sqft

Anyone else experienced this product?

If you are going to paint / epoxy..Then I would highly recommend Wolverine Coatings - They are a top quality product and company...Plus all Made in USA!

The June edition of Grassroots Motorsports has an article " Concrete Conundrum " , page 111. Must be too early for the article to be referenced on line, search did not return any results.

GM lists theses alternatives with comments:

Paint
Epoxy floor covering
Stained or dyed concrete
Plastic mats
Plastic tiles
Polished concrete

Recapped is the application of UCoat on their, GM , 50 year old concrete. Also mentioned Ucoat used in Jay Leno's shop

The following was copied from a Real Estate listing in FL:

Garage Floor:

" 8-mil ply moisture barrier on 100-percent compacted lime rock. 6" concrete slab with No. 5 rebar and 6" O.C. each way, poured monolithic with a 12"x24" footer with four No.8 rebar continuous. "

" Floor Coating: Epoxy / Urethane System by Pro Painting of Hollywood, Florida : "

" The floor was steel shot-blasted to clean and abrade the surface to a profile similar to 80-grit sandpaper. This ensures proper adhesion of the new flooring system. Next, a penetrating epoxy sealer was applied. Then all cracks, voids, pinholes, and so on were patched with epoxy patching cement. Next, two coats of High Performance Epoxy were applied twenty-four hours apart, tinted a light tan color with a dry film thickness of 9 mil. This provides a smooth solid base for the finish coats. Then two coats of Aliphatic Urethane tinted the same light tan with a dry film thickness of 5 mil were applied 24 hours apart. The urethane is extremely durable and resistant to abrasion, chipping, and resistant to all automotive chemicals, fuels, and oils. High-gloss finish will not fade and cleans very easily, just mop or wipe. "

Don-Wow, the structural specs on that garage floor are awesome! The presence of a vapor barrier under the concrete floor cannot be over emphasized, especially in areas that have soils with a high plasticity index. You can follow all the correct manufacturers instructions, and use the best materials, but the lack of an approved vapor barrier can ruin everything. The moisture will just percolate right up through the concrete and the hydrostatic pressure will eventually lift the best of finishes. Having an approved vapor barrier is just as important as correct surface preparation.
