Sources for soft/rag top????
Well, I've looked the forum over and cannot find a board for interior issues, so hopefully this will suffice. If I have misplaced this post, I'm hoping some moderator will notice that and place it in it's correct location.
I just finished a deal for a used 427 Cobra replica and would like to purchase a soft top for it. I can't seem to find anything but supplies (ferrules, snaps, etc.) by searching the web.....would anyone out there have any sources they can share where a guy might be able to buy a soft top (or, alternatively, where a guy with some good woodworking skills might be able to find plans for a bent-wood bow frame)?
If it helps, I've even searched websites related to the British sports cars, but none of the ones I found have anything for the AC, only things like Morgans and MG's, etc.
Thanks in advance for whatever help you can provide!
Dugly

I have no personal knowledge on how these fit (or will fit your car) but it is a start.

Otherwise, if you know who made your body, you should be able to contact them.

The body was made by Cobra Auto Works, a defunct manufacturer based in Oklahoma City. They haven't been around for a long time.....I've done a lot of research online and spoken to a few trim shops here in Houston, TX, and nobody wants to mess with it unless I bring them a frame and top and all they want to do is install it.
Most of the internet companies make it clear that their tops fit only original Shelby Cobras and that if you buy it and it doesn't fit your replica, you still own it.
I've also had the chance to talk to a replica owner who has a top and he described the frame assembly, I know I can do what he has out of wood. The ferrules and snaps seem quite readily available on the internet, not so sure about the calmps for where the top mounts to the windshield.
Anyone else have any advice? Once I get the car I can do some measurements, body width at the door openings, etc.....then I'll know what I have to work with.
Onward through the fog.......

Dugly, come to the HCC meet on May 9th. Most of the guys with SPF's carry their tops with them so that you can see how they work.

Sounds like a great idea to me....I'm suppose to pick up the car May 4th .
I have also spoken to a HCC member who has a Contemporary Cobra with a ragtop...might meet up with him that night, too.

If you can't find one from another replica that fits properly, you should be able to get a local auto upholstery shop to make one for you.

I'll certainly keep that in mind, Mick! I want to see what kind of framework the SPF cars use, to see if I can duplicate it in wood, before I ask someone to custom make me a piece. I surfed into your website and didn't see that ragtop bows are a part of your stock production, so I'm certain it would have to be a custom job.
Good to know there's someone who can make my framework if I need that, though, thanks for offering!
