Default Molds redone....

When I got my car in 89 I was told that the molds had been redone and the bodies were different from the earlier cars. Not sure about the date or the extent of the changes. Pictures look like their 289 fia car . Does it have the small 289 front opening?

Rodgarcia: Check my photos for yet another NAF fender design. Mine is a 1985 with a 351 Cleveland. It seems to have the FIA rollbar mixed with 427 features. I also have a 1985 Shell Valley car that I believe is a better car. It has larger frame rails and the body seems thicker. However, I really like the rear suspension of the NAF car. It is a 3 link with a large panhard bar. The car does drive well and is a lot of fun.

Byron's car appears to be a 427 body. The one Rod posted appears to be a flared 289 street car version which is similar to what the privateers would have raced back in the 60's. The flares are to accomodate wider tires on alloy wheels. To look period, put either the kidney port Halibrand style wheels, or the Torque Thrust wheels with a 2 ear knock off. I really like that car. I wish it were mine...

The reason for the exagerated flares in the 60's was tire development. As they grew wider matching wheels had negative offset and were forced to the outside because of the overall width of the current body and the fact that there was very little room to the inside. The flat type was the easiest to design and attach. Rules required the tires be covered.
