Black paint on fiberglass

My car still looks good after a couple of years. Tony did it and was not that expensive. He also primed it in white (see my photo gallery) after sealing it. Would not have changed it if I could. Yes, lots of polish. Never wash it...spray & shine.

It is not a secret that I use Dupont and that is why I said -use the right products, BASF-PPGs top line etc., not single stage of any kind- not matrix not Duponts cheaper line,. This is what I meant in the sentence- what I use is a seperate listing and why. A lot of why's, but the largest one is Dupont will guarantee any of their top line products for life as long as the painter followed the product line from top to bottom- They HAVE paid me to strip one Cobra over the years and repaint it when something (I never did find out what/or why it was!) went wrong and the color stated to die.

Paint it black.....you want a painter that will tell you everything(use him)if hes that honest.......I have seen slitherings car up close and personal and his black paint is AWESOME.......go for it.

....but the Viking Blue calls....and your wife loves that color.

Luckily, my wife loves silver (her car is silver) and the SPF titanium silver was the only choice for me. I did struggle between stripes or no stripes.

Now theres one (carbon fiber) (C/F is famous for imprinting) that has to be right from the ground up to be black! I can only imagine a C/F Cobra done in -sorry- but it is Dupont's new black. (Truly black). The depth of the shine would easily reach the 36" mark on an inch wide yardstick standing staight up/out from the car! Wow, just thinking about it can make you dizzy!

Actually, it is on the road. Oddly enough, even though it is in raw fiberglass I still get swarmed by people, asking if it's original (or a Triumph...but that's a different story...) that I'm restoring or a "kit". Either way, people always say "it's beautiful"---and this in raw fiberglass, no more!

Just wait until I get it painted!

I've put about 1700 miles on it since the beginning of March. Loving every mile!

I am going to paint mine black. I removed the gelcoat and did all of the long hair fiberglass work. Then, we baked the body up to 225 degrees for a lenght of time. The painter took the car and did the body filler and primer. The car has been in primer for 6 months.

Soon, the body will go back to the painter. We will bake it again, then sand the primer coat, then go color. He is a huge believer in a healthly amount of clear coat.

By the way, I have been told by so many people not to paint it black. Because the body moves, because it shows every imperfection, because it is hard to keep clean, because, because, because.... Well, I decided they can't talk me out of it. I can't wait!!

Mine is British Racing Green (HST uses Jaguar BRG paint) over carbon fiber. It is what I would consider a dark color. Yes, you can see every little imperfection in the right light. But I can see imperfections in my black/red Shelby GT too. I loved the black/red Cobra in the previous shot.

I say go for it.

Doug, it's really simple, if you like black, get black. A good painter will make it work, no matter what color(s) you choose.

9500 miles later, I will admit, a black car takes a lot more work to keep it clean ....
