Default Custom Billet Air Cleaner!!!!

I custom machined this air cleaner, wingnuts and oil breathers for my car and am thinking of producing them to sell. Is there anyone interested in purchasing one? I am currently working up pricing but wanted to get an idea of what people thought. Please give me some feedback!! Also check out my album for more pictures.
Thanks!

That's a beautiful piece, can you make a drop base one?

Beautiful work!

Might want to talk with an attorney before starting to sell them though...

Default Looks Great~!

I'm wondering whether you could custom cut the top to say Cobra 533 instead of 427? It looks awesome, the drop base would make it the nicest I've seen for sure!

Any idea of price range?

Dirk

Be careful with the C word in anything you sell or your lawyer will be sending you a bill for defending you in court.

Consider selling just the lids, and lose the writing to clean them up and avoid lawsuits. Perhaps make a recess to accept the popular fender badges:

The work is very nice indeed.
With that being said..............
The way SA has been legally leaning the last few years, and if you are serious about selling these, you really need to consider your legal stance in regards to trademark infringement at the least. I am not a trademark or patent attorney, but I own quite a few. You need to be aware of the legalities of marketing an established companies name on your own saleable product. Someone just might show up with a cease and desist order or looking for some royalties.
Just a heads up, good luck.

Just market them as “protective shin guards for venomous snake handlers”…Size 427(mm) SC (Shin Covers)…Advise them to stand with the venomous snake to their right side (so they only need to purchase one)…Sell the top nuts as Ninja throwing stars…Hope this helps….(BTW…they look great)

Here's one example of how some of us achieve it.

In this case, I had the base machined so that the air horn that protrudes up from the carb is removed. This alone creates about 1" of clearance. Then you have to make provisions to clear most dual bowled carbs. Easy...drill two 1" holes and use valve cover PCV grommets to isolate the base plate and keep it from vibrating.

Now to get even MORE of a drop, you would need to have the billet base wrap over the carb. This would get you another 1/2" or so before you start making contact with the throttle arm.

I always figured with the above modification, along with an additional 1/2", one could get a 2-3" air cleaner to fit under any Cobra hood. This is the end result:

-Dean

WOW very nice. I happen to like my cobra air cleaner top but I want one of those spinner lock nuts on top. Any chance of you producing a couple extra of those.

BTW: here is another example of a drop base. Unfortunatly the person that made this one is not interested in making any more

I've added a photo of my custom dropped air cleaner base to my gallery...a little different than most...filter element & top removed for clarity.

Hello Dean, I did the same to my base, then we straped the car on the chassis dyno and the results were very poor, when it came to the cfm flow and the motor was also,.... lean. So, I had the intake carb flange planed off apx. 1/4" and I now have good hood clearance with no effect on the cfm.

With a 14" round (or so) air cleaner with a drop base, I doubt it would hamper cfm at all because 3/4" of the filter is above the carb. With our short height 1-3/4" oval air cleaner, you really reduce the air intake to the carb.

Be careful.

Blas- that's a nice tow hook idea you have. Is it removable ?

I put mine in the drivers side brake vent and bolted to the frame horn but, I'm concerned that the tow rope will screw up the paint ?

Did you try going under, the car ?

Also, take some more damn pics of your SPF ! (just 1) lol !!!

Not wanting to steal this thread...so I'll start another one regarding the tow hook in the SPF area...
