need info on garage and 4 post lift

Looking to do a 4 post lift. However, my garage door is exactly at the same height as the post of the lift 83 in.

I would like to find out if you guys have lifted you doors with the high lift kit ?

Also, did you do it yourself or did you pay someone to do it.

What does something like this cost?

Not sure what type of door you have, but if you have a sectional door and your garage ceiling height is tall enough you could add another section to the top. Then extend the roller tracks up and back. You may be able to even just extent the tacks without adding a section if when you redo the opener the pulling arm goes low enough. This would move the whole door higher when opened. You could do it yourself. If you have a garage door opener you would have to get an extention kit and move it further back to allow for the taller door.

Ask a garage door company to come out and give you a bid. They can look at your situation and then you can evaluate your options.

I had my garage doors lifted to 10' and changed the drive to a side mount which eliminated the overhead drive. They extended the vertical rails to give me maximum height and did not add panels, so when the door is open, it is
mainly vertical and doesn't go back but a couple of feet to the ceiling so is
entirely out of the may. Worked out far better than I would have thought.

That is exactly what I wanted to have done in my garage. I have a company coming out to give me a quote.

I wanted to know what is reasonable. I have one quote for $655.00

Doing it myself.

I would have it done by the professionals. The 600 bucks is well worth it. It is not worth the hassle of messing with those springs- they are dangerous.

Mine were about $1k but $650 was for the new drive (good model and worth
the extra) each. I liked the first one where the lift is so much that I
had the other one done - just in case I get another lift for stacking.

I totally agree with Anthony - I can do a lot of different things but didn't even
want to mess with those springs. The right tools help too. As long as
everything goes smoothly it should take less than four hours.
