I've heard of brake locking system. I assume it works like a drag racer's line lock. That might be a good deterrent....

Just get an extremely high "agreed Value" deal with your insurance company and stop the worry, if somebody wants your car..they will find a way to get it.
I love my cobra, but if a large chunk of blue ice landed on it in my driveway...I'm covered.

I agree with Bill Bess, if someone wants it, they will find a way to get it. As far as what Ron61 said, unfortunately in today's society, there's so much "by-stander effect" that people a lot of times don't want to be bothered to get involved or to care about someone else's stuff.

There were a lot of nice ideas, the more deterrants, the harder for it to be stolen. It's a double edge sword because it's the more hoops you have to jump through to go and enjoy your car when you want to take it out. I know one guy that just taking off the dust cover is a chore...

I can't believe no one has mentioned Trunk Monkey:

Trunk Monkey 2 - YouTube

Actually, I agree with all above. Do what you can to keep amatures away and get good insurance, but if a professional wants it, they will get it.

They will take it, if they want it bad enough. Do not leave it unattended when it is not a good idea to do so. If you don't plan to drive it, pull the wheels & put them in storage.

I was thinking about putting in a motion detector alarm, that if someone sticks their hand in the car or breaks the plain of the motion detector its automatically sent to my iphone or a two way pager and lets me know.

Weird idea, but if you aren't going to drive it, maybe allow a car dealer/auto museum keep it in there showroom (roped off of course) as a show case or something? It's getting cold in the northeast and a nice warm place for your Cobra is nice. It'll also be tough for anyone to get to it...including yourself though...

Default Garmin GPS tracker

A GPS tracking system may help with the recovery. If you notice the car gone you can track it yourself and call law inforcement. If you're on vacation and are not able to se the car you can set up a electronic fence. If the car is moved out of the fenced area you can be notified via cell phone.

I guess this is similar to Lojack but the Garmin is more of a DIY system.

Dewalt also sells something similar.

My car will have one of these devices including a bunch of other disabling features that I've built in.

Just curious....has anyone used a "Viper" alarm system successfully on a fiberglass-bodied replica?

I ask b/c I have an older Mazda 626 on which I installed a Viper alarm, but now it is not being used and before I sell it I may take it to an alarm dealer and have him strip the Viper system if it can successfully be used on my replica.

Cheers!

Dugly

I'm not afraid to drive my car, I am afraid of the normal things like parking it and getting a door ding, having someone reach into the car and steal the radio out. People do jerky things for no reason it all, it's about mitigating my losses and making it more difficult.

Interesting thread. I've been thinking of installing a 2-way alarm system in my SPF, Viper being one of the mfrs I've looked at. Top of the line systems are said to have a range approaching a mile. Since the body is fiberglass, the install shop says they can mount the antenna out of sight without severly limiting the 2-way paging range. There are add-on modules for proximity and motion sensor, which are the items I am primarily interested in. A decent 2-way alarm system seems to be in the $700-800 range installed.

The only time my car is really out of sight at all is during cruise runs or car shows, so I've been leaning towards a 2-way system with an intelligent fob that can tell me exactly which alarm module has been tripped. Proximity can also be set so that a warning chirp sounds if someone gets a little too close and then full-on wailing if someone sticks an arm or leg in the cockpit.

Still not certain if it's a good idea or a waste of money. If somebody really wants to take the car, I'd guess they'll figure out a way to do it. I dunno.

Not much will keep someone from loading it on a roll-back tow truck, but the best way to prevent someone from driving off with it is a hidden fuel shutoff switch (on the supply side of the pump if preferred)...they start it and get half a block away and it's dead...no time to play mechanic, and they'll just walk away.
