Default New Cobra owner ...First Impressions !!

I love the car !! I bought a BDR #785 with a 427 Roush... but I am already sick of answering these ?'s.....

1). Is that a FAKE one? Or Real?

2). How much was it?

3). Is thats one of those Kits? or the real deal?

Coming from a supercharged viper, I'm not used to this !!

Get used to it. What really pi$$es me off is when a person that is supposed to be a friend treats you like a red headed step child because "it's not a real one". Screw them.

1) Yes
2) Kit cost about $13,500 and then you buy a donor for $2500 and put it together. Out the door for $20K
3)Kit

Who gives a flying fuk what others think, what are you in grade school??. Tell them to go build one they will know exactly what they cost. Yes I am an ahole. BDR are great replicas and you have a fantastic engine. How is throttle response compared to your viper? which would win in a race?

The cobra is much more fun to drive...it has alot more low end torque. From a 60mph roll..is where the viper was lethal. The cobras seem to hook very well...I have 3.64 gears so mine is very snappy... From dead stop 1/4 mile race....i think the cobra would jump out of the hole, but it would be a drivers race. John

Welocome to the madness.
I have had mine for over 28 months and everytime I go out with mine, that is the same kind of questions that I have not gotten accustom to yet.

My answer to some of the questions are:
Is it Real? It's a Hand built Replica from South Africa.

How much does it cost?
I don't like to discuss prices!

There is a small sign that I normally carry with me that I put on the dash of the car that says "LOOK, DON'T TOUCH AND DON'T ASK FOR THE PURCHASE PRICE"

Good Luck!
It gets to me when someone refer to it as a KIT.......

Regarding Cobra replica owners' reactions to the questions everyone always asks, I quote John Travolta's character from the film Broken Arrow. "I don't know what the big deal is. I really don't." .... I just answer the questions, usually like this.

1. You won't see too many half million dollar real Cobras in the Arby's parking lot.

2. I'll sell it to you for $100,000.

3. It was made from a kit made by Everett-Morrison.

I change my answers depending on the person asking.

Sometimes im vague for fun. Had a guy who had a ferrari come up to me and say "Wow this thing must be worth a half a million dollars" I answered "You never know what you can get from day to day". He must have thought I was big oil

If a guy is a legitimate potential buyer of a cobra and wants to know what it will cost to get in a cobra I will tell them the cost.

But if people ask if my SPF is a kit, I just say no. Cause it isnt. If people think its real, I wont correct them.

Dont get angry when the questions come in, it will never stop. Have fun with it, people are interested in your car and that is kinda neat

Evan - See how easy it is to say "Its a replica that's better built than the original and faster too."
You'll get more comfortable with it with repetition.

I don't answer the same way twice. Flip answer is that it's a Tupperware re-pop.

Welcome vipertocobra, have fun with your new toy!

I also recently purchased a BDR and recieve the same type of questions. following are my responses.

1. It is a factory built replica, manufactured in South Africa. It comes to the USA completed, minus the engine and transmission, which is installed by the local dealer, or yourself if you are so inclined.
2. The local BDR dealer has cars starting at $43,900. Teh price varies greatly based ont eh engine and other options. I have his number if you are interested.
3. It is limited production, factory manufactured vehicle. Hand Built with Attitude. Only approximately 900 of them in the world from this company.

Enjoy the car and the attention, that is part of the reason for owning one.

See, I knew that if I posted that it would result in some wise crack.

Yes, it is simple for a BDR owner. It is a replica.

For a continuation series. Its not a replica of a Cobra it is a "Cobra". So the answer I give "Yes its REAL, its a Continuation series Shelby.". Factual, accurate and truthful and EASY.

But note that I let it slide. Actually, I'm still marveling that TButtrick really believed that I temporarily got my ERA in to the SAAC registry because of my rotary wiper knob....

The term "Cobra" has been diluted over the years with mustangs. When someone ask about my car I assure them it is not a Cobra, but a Superformance Mark III, I do not want someone to mistake that I have a Mustang II Cobra, or a 98 Mustang Cobra or a reptile or a wannbe Cobra called a continuation series marketing ploy stole from Ford.

Doug, Doug, Doug. You see what happens when you get too close to the flames?

I read Evan's post and ignored it.

Can someone start a 2005-2006 Ford GT thread...please? Evan will post there, since he owns a replica of the original GT40.

Go screw up my "Kopec-Beef" thread and leave this one alone.

SPFs are very nice cars--I hope you enjoy your Mark III.

My ego and self worth have been deflated after learning that you think my CSX 4000 is a "wannabe" Cobra. And all this time I really thought I could pass it off as an original Cobra.

That has to do with whether your wipers self-park, whether or not you don't have the appropriate grommets, and, of course, if you're well-versed in cheese....

I shot off half cocked a little earlier, I do that alot. It was after I posted I read your profile. I guess it is fair to call yours a Cobra or at worst a continuation series.

Uhh, I'd like to see one more roll bar on it, please. But clearly the black stripes show impeccable taste.

I'm thinking about black stripes too, but my taste is always impeccable no matter what.

Hopefully, no one derails this thread even further with the "one versus two" roll bar debate.
