I bet Computerworks knows of at least one original Cobra where the owner slapped on a second roll bar....

Have fun with the questions. Most people don't know the difference between a "real or replica" cobra. It’s just a way for them to break the ice. Be honest and educate them. When I am asked if it real, I say "no it’s not an original Shelby, it’s a more advanced KIRKHAM".

My View:
People who ask questions about my car are just car guys and gals, like myself.
They are interested, and have no intention of being rude or obnoxious.
They are truly oblivious to how their questions may be taken.
To be happy, sad, or angry is my choice. It is not what others do that matters, it is how I react to it that matters the most.
I have yet to run into a jerk, when I do, I will simply walk away or ignor them.
To the is it real question: I simply say I'm not a millionare.

I agree with OldDog; I've run in to more jerks on this forum than I've ever met on the road or at car shows.

I am not a jerk, I am an ahole!!!!!!. If it was not built in the 1960's it is not an original Cobra. My SPF has Carol Shelby name on the vin plate, we all know what that is worth. It is the car that makes the car, not when it was built. Even POS Kirkham with their dull finish, they . maybe great cars but they are not originals. By the way I am saving diligently since I would do just about anything but kill to own a Kirkham and if AAPL keeps going up it will be sooner than later. Accept my apology to whomever I upset, the silver with black stripes is gorgeous.
Great day in Houston today. Two robbers shot by their associated victims one being a 72 year old man being car jacked by a 16 year old. The other idiot was robbing a off duty or retired cops apartment and met his fate. Friendly fire does happen a husband accidentally shot his wife comming out of the bathroom the other night. I love this city.

I'm a new Cobra owner too. Have had my Superformance home for about two weeks now. I absolutely LOVE the attention the car gets and am quite happy to talk about it with anyone and answer whatever questions they may have.
Mind you, I don't usually tell people what I paid for the car -- I find that a bit personal -- but I don't mind telling them what it's worth (appraised value) and what similar cars are listed for. But I struggle with how to answer the question, "Is it real?"
Obviously the car is "real." It's here and I can touch it. It's a real Superformance. It's a real Cobra replica. You get the idea...
Am I really being asked whether the car is an "original" 427SC Cobra, one of 29 ever made? Those have become little more than museum pieces these days, a sad fate for a car, no matter how valuable.
I also find it tough to answer, "What year is it?" I mean, it's a 2002 SPF which is a replica of a 1965 427SC. But since most people know very little about Cobras and even less about Superformance, it all seems a bit complicated.
But hey, at least we're talking about my car...

I carry SPF brochures in the trunk and just hand them one. I have dealt with stupid questions long before my SPF with the boats I have owned. The how much does it cost question is the worst.

And you guys think someone asking "How much does it cost?" or "Is it real?" is outta line? You gotta get your priorities straight. Just feel good somebody's interested enough in your car to ask about it. I tell them it's a real ERA and it's built in a little shop right here in New Britain and they could have one too for under 100k.

Not to distract the thread to much which I have already done but between Hurricane Rita causing the evacuation of the New Orleans to Houston and Obama getting elected and the fear of him changing the gun laws Houstonians have bought about every box of ammunition there is and obtained their concealed gun permits. Obama did more for the sale of firearms and ammunition then anyone in history. I am all for it except walmart and academy has been out of the ammunition for my .45 and .357 since November. Forget about .223.

But.....CC is like a magnet, you keep coming back for more and more and more. Face it, you need a 12 step Club Cobra program.
If each thread had a quote, this would be definitely be it (by madmaxx):
"I am not a jerk, I am an ahole!!!!!!"

I park my car and walk away. Or at least, stand a car over like I don't own it. It doesn't matter what you answer the questions with, there are always going to be people who think they know more about your car or Cobras in general than you.

I am used to the questions - no bodder me. "Is it real?" I usually just say
if it was it wouldn't be here - since the few real deals are about $1 mil each,
then you wouldn't drive it. Then I just say mine is a replica - the look of the
old but with modern technology a bit more reliable and a lot more fun
because the insurance is way cheaper than an original's would cost. That
they have no problem understanding. It is all about the fun of meeting people
with one of these cars. Amazing how many out there who had a uncle, friend,
whatever who owned a real one - if all were true there must have been a
million made.

When people ask me if it is real, I always answer, "I've got a 1965 Shelby Cobra title right here". Mine's got a '65 Shelby Cobra Title from the DMV. I love to see the look of awe on their faces, that's what they get for asking the question!
Get used to it, now you know how celebrities feel. Great choice on the BDR.

When they ask what year they usually think its real and want to know from what period. I always answer 1965 to that question.
Most questions are innocent, I think we all read into them too much.

I went to "Car-B-Q" last weekend at a friend's house, where there were a lot very nice cars on display, mostly musclecars. A couple with their two young adult kids (one boy, one girl) were congregating around my Kirkham and discussing it. Since they didn't know I was the owner, and that I was standing around listening to them, I eavesdropped.
The father was explaining to his family that my Cobra was an original built in the 1980's. You could audibly hear a gasp from the small crowd around this father in reverence. Of course, I had to step in and tell them that it was not an original, but a Kirkham, and that it was built in 2007.
