Over the Arkansas Boston Mountain's on a Sunday afternoon
It doesn't get much better than this. Sunday afternoon, 82 Degrees, a 60 mile road from Fort Smith, Arkansas to Fayetteville littered with signs that say something like "Crooked and Steep Next 17 Miles" or "Sharp Corner Ahead.... 20 MPH" (Ha Ha Ha!!). I looked at my brother and said "Just our kind of road"! The Boston Mountains are beautiful on old highway 71 North. All the trees are dark green, the road is in good shape, the sky is blue and my car sounds great in 2nd or 3rd going around some of those curves. Up on the "scenic route" and back to Fort Smith on 540 which is a great (relatively new) intersate. (You have to blast through the Bobby Hopper Tunnel in a low gear). Well worth the trip and a lot of waves from motorcycle riders. Arkansas is beautiful this time of year. Come on down or Come on over depending on where you live! Bob

Particularly this weekend. We don't have many August weekends like this one. Sounds like you had a nice drive.

Will do, Wendell. I drive my car as often as I can. My rear end was ready for a little break after a couple of hours. Got to do something about the seat bottom!

Hey guys, the Gateway Cobra Club is coming down 11/5 - 11/8. We will be cruising from Harrison down the Pig's Trail and other roads. We have two full days of cruising (Friday and Saturday) before coming back. Would welcome anyone from the area that could go with us. Let me know if interested.
This sounded like a great cruise, any pics?

Western Arkansas is one of my favorite places to drive. I drove from Pette Jean to Mena on my way to Colorado andfrom the NW corner to Hot Springs on the way back. I loved 23, sepecially coming off the mountain north of I40

Wendall,
O'reilly Street Nationals at state fairgrounds this weekend. Bound to be some Cobras. Sure you don't want to include LR in your cruise?

A great drive is up the back of Magazine Mountain from Havana then over the top to Paris. Old 71 through Mountainburg is another great run. My wife's family owns a winery there is Altus and there's all sorts of old highways coming out of Ozark that are great too.

Ok, so my plan originally was to leave Harrison, go through Eureka Springs, follow 23 down to Ozark, and around Magazine, come up the South side, back down the North side, and work our way back to Harrison via Hwy 7. However, kind of limited daylight hours available in early November, but really want to show the folks from St. Lou Mt. Magazine (spent a weekend there and found it to be really great). So, do you think I can make the loop from Harrison to Mt. Magazine and back if we leave at 8am from Harrison?

It'll take a little over 3 hours to Ozark, then another 1/2 hour to Booneville and another half over to 309. About 5 hours back with an hour for lunch and you'll pull back into Harrison just in time for supper.
Be careful on the 309 switchbacks. I'm used to making that run in the C6 and it was a whole different ballgame in the Cobra.
