Default Choosing a dyno tuner

I have multiport EFI with a Ford EEC4 controller.

I was talking with a dyno tuner that I have heard good things about. I told him my O2 sensors are in a single tube about a foot from the heads. He wanted me to move them to the collector. I explained that with the side pipes that would be 3+ feet from the heads. He thought that would still be worth trying. I told him that most things I have read says that is too far and the single tube is the better option. He said he was willing to try the single tube, but he has had several engines that it didn't work very well on. He suggested setting it up to run open loop all the time, but would try the single tube first.

Should I continue to look for a different tuner, or is he making good sense?

I ran mine in one tube (#4 & #8) close to the heads for a couple of years. Then I moved them to the collector about 40" from the heads. Worked both ways. I had other issues when I had them close to the heads, so I don't know if the O2 location did not work as well as it should have. Now I make 402 rear wheel horsepower, 416 tq with a 302 stroked to 354. Runs great. Cruise at 1300 to 1500 rpms in 5th gear. No issues, but the rear tires will not stick to the road

I'm using the EECIV Ford unit with a custom chip.

He is in central Ohio. A guy who has a chassis dyno. It started as a hobbie. Then week end and evening work. Now he is doing it full time and no longer has his day job (maybe his choice, maybe the economy).

Since I am questioning what he said, I will not name him. It may have been good advise, and I would not want to cause any negative reflections his way.

So you have your O2 in the collectors on your cobra side pipes. You are the man with the experiance I am looking for.

Are these factory type heated O2 (4wire)?

Are you sure they get hot enough to go into closed loop control?

Ceramic coated pipes?

Any insulation wrapped on the headers?
