Cobra security

Hello all,
I'm new to Cobra ownership and would like your views on security when on runs, overniters, and especially hotel parking lots. You naturally would like your car parked right in front of your room but sometimes things just don't happen.

I do realize if they want it, they'll take it. How many of you have Lojack? Do you always sleep well? Thanks, 209

I wouldn't sleep a wink if I left my Cobra in a hotel parking lot. Wouldn't enjoy my food if I left it outside a restaurant. Maybe with a trained doberman who likes to snooze in the passenger seat. A valet is not going to drive my car.

It's not a car, it's part of the family. And I wouldn't leave a child out there either.

Good post though......it will be interesting to see other comments you get.

If you are on a run there are others, strength in number. Make sure your insurance covers the things you would do differently and sleep like a baby. I have never heard of a car being stolen on a run. I bet it has happened but it has to be a rare occurrence.

I do park in well light, heavy foot traffic areas with the other basic thoughts of security. If insurance discount would pay for the LoJack great, if not then just increases the investment they are going to steal.

Put your car cover on and make sure your insurance is paid up.

If they are going to take it, then they will. There isn't much you can do short of sleeping in it with a 12 Ga.

I drive mine everywhere, I park it anywhere. I park it, walk away, and have a good time. What's the point in having the bloody thing if you're going to lose sleep over it. It's a car. They'll make more.

I also drive mine and park it just about everywhere. I park it away from most other cars and try to pick a spot that I can keep in sight. I've parked it at a hotel once and nobody bothered it. Parked it right under the parking lot light. I use a tonneau cover and also remove the steering wheel if I can't keep it in sight at all times.

I would only park in large numbers with other nice cars at a scheduled event such as a SAAC convention or a local event like CH1. Otherwise, I don't see myself leaving my car anywhere unattended for any length of time.

I've only had my car for a short period of time, but in that short period, there have been a couple of instances when I've parked my car for a lunch or whatever, with the car in plain view, and "issues" arose where I had to walk out and tame the "wild beasts."

Some have written above that these cars are replaceable, and that they'll keep making them, but they must not have achieved the same level of emotional attachment that I have with my Cobra. With all the possibilities and vagarities of our lawmakers in CA, who really knows if these cars will be replaceable in the future. I've waited a long time to get one, and it's "just right."

However, I think there is one situation where I might feel comfortable. That situation is as follows: I might leave it for an extended stay if my car were parked next to Patrick's, since I would hope that the would-be thief might think a Cobra with two roll bars is worth more than a Cobra with one.

And the thief would be correct. But then the thief, as clever as he is, would note the heavy gauge cable lock running through my wheels. Then the thief would note that there was no steering wheel on my car (thanks to the quick release hub on the Moto Lita). Only then would the thief gaze on the lovely Kirkham, and the rest, as they say, would be history....

Once they gaze at the "cheap chrome paint job" on my car, they would once again cast their eyes back to yours. Cable or not. Steering wheel? Who needs them.

I was at a hotel one time where this guy had a nice old Corvette parked outside. He had a 20' long chain that padlocked the car to a sturdy post that was part of the Hotel building. Great idea if you remember to unlock the thing. This was long before I owned a Cobra.

Every year the boys of CACC goes to Rehoboth Beach Delaware and about 25 to 30 Cobras sit outside the hotel for a couple of nights in the hotel parking lot. To date we have had no problems. We are having another annual event the first week in October (Usually have around 50 to 50 cobras) and I'm looking forward to it. I also have to say I always have my car park in front of my room, and I do not totally sleep.....

The battery kill switch hidden in the trunk is a good one and a removable steering wheel allow me to sleep well. The insurance is a flat payout for replacement which allows me to figure if they wanted it that bad, I can just buy another one.

I use RAVELCO as an immobilizer system (only system that's never been defeated that I am aware of and only system to pass the 3 min test established by insurance companies in Mexico city where car theft if rampant). It's hidden and you would never know its on the car, you just would never get ignition. I also use the Club on my steering wheel as a visual deterrent and to make it harder for people to just roll the car away. Oh and an agreed insurance value that would make replacement easy.
