The ultimate original ac cobra find this past week!!!!
Enough sarcastic ***** on here to start a bonfire. I had heard this about this from others who left this forum for this very reason. Oh well, thought I would post what had been located and owners of REAL COBRAS would appreciate it. Unfortunately, all I got before I took the post down was a bunch of know it all folks who wouldn't know what a real Cobra was if it ran them the hell over. Enjoy your fakes, your never close to "REAL CARS" guys. I would expect bashing from a bunch of GM guys who dont get it, but not on/from a Cobra forum. But, so far, again, as I stated, its been littered with guys with fake stuff wishin' it were anywhere close to the real deal. Sorry I didn't get to hear from owners of the real stuff instead of fakes. Enjoy your never-gonna-have-any-real-value continuation cars, and your plastic, and by all means....have fun!

The Cobra parts are very cool. Don't know how much they are worth unless a Numbered Cobra needs them though. Even then there are people out there who can, if they don't already, make exact duplicates of panels. Very cool museum piece with the crate!

Definitely a neat find. I don't know how valuable they are because you can get replacement Cobra panels from a number of sources, and they are all handmade like the originals. But I am sure there are some small block street car owners out there who'd buy those up.

You know, it is cool to actually come across something like that, but I wouldn't pay a whole lot for those pieces. What are you going to do with them, hang them on your wall in your garage and tell everyone they're real body parts? Or, I guess you could hire the Kirkhams to build the other side and mold then together so you could have a, well something or rather.

If you can afford the car, you can likely afford the parts, and you are given the opportunity to buy the real deal, the decision would be easily made, I feel. But, I own the parts too, so maybe I have a somewhat slanted view. Not exactly the case in the many other minds of the folks that have the opportunity to see these in person, or via pictures the past few days. Regardless, there are exactly NONE of these out there, and I ask anyone to show me another set. I honest believe this may be the only set that slipped out of England and still exist today.
Curiously, if anyone else has the right side, I would be interested in buying it. Might be the closest thing to ever owning the Real Deal, no!??! I won't hold my breath for emails. Ha ha!
One other note. Think of the guys out there with actual balls who race their original 289 cars. Again, if you can afford the car, would you not want ORIGINAL spares in case you ever balled it up? I would, if I could afford the car!? Just my two cents. Stupid rare, regardless...

Well, you can't really compare something like a replacement Cobra body panel in the sense of "NOS". An "NOS" rear quarter for a Chevelle or Mustang is NOS because it was stamped on a machine in 1969 that doesn't exist anymore and every single part was identical.
A Cobra body panel is hand made from sheet aluminum by a craftsman. Whether a guy in 1967 grabbed some aluminum off the shelf and made the panel, or some guy in 2009 grabbed some aluminum off the shelf and made the panel, it's still a hand made part.
Of course I can see the point of having a part made originally by AC as added value, but a replacement Cobra body panel made by Kimmons, McCluskey or Brooklands would not by any means be inferior in any way.
And as far as original cars being damaged, there are probably more original Cobras out there that have been repaired or rebodied than cars that haven't been damaged in some way

One rear quarter panel for a 427 comp car recently went to Austrailia for $60K. We have to take into perspective what these ORIGINAL cars, and AGAIN, their respective parts are worth. You are talking one half of one million dollars, to over one million dollar vehicles here. These high end Cobra collectors are the money-is-no-object-type-of-folks, FOLKS! I am not however suggesting that one of these panels are worth $60K. The restoration world of these cars, as anyone who is inclined, or collects or restores them will tell you, is an entire different game than the recreation/reproduction Cobra business. They are at entirely different ends of the spectrum and this should go without saying.
PS, if I would hang them on the wall, I wouldn't have to tell anyone they are real, because they ARE real.

Yep, most of us know and appreciate original cars, and we have many members here who own original cars.
And to answer your question, if I had an original car that needed a complete body panel replacement, I would have no problem getting one from one of the modern Cobra body craftsman out there. It's just a sheet of aluminum; as long as it's the right shape, once it's on the car and painted it doesn't matter where it came from.
And in the world of original Cobras, repaired is still repaired. It doesn't matter the source for the replacement panel, once it has to be replaced, the car has been tainted.

Looks like someone has bought some NOS panels and is trying to talk it up to make a sale (IMHO)
Good luck with trying to turn a dollar on them, as others have said, most of these cars have been bent and repaired in the past, having parts that where beaten out in 1964 as opposed to 2009 is a moot point, as in the end they are all hand made.
You still have not mentioned what you paid for them?
Also can you supply any proof of this sale in Australia of a rear quarter for $60k?
And before you make a point of it, no, I do not own an original either.
Not sure if I would be calling some panels the "Ultimate Barn Find"

That'll certainly get some responses from the gallery here.
I am sure someone somewhere would want those parts, but you may have to work and wait a while. Remember, there aren't many originals in the first place, and there are even fewer of them sitting wrecked waiting on those parts. Very cool find though.

Blown-V8,
It is a great find IF they are in fact origional panels. What kind of documentation did you get that says they are? Are you just going by somones word that they are in fact origional?
That being said, this is your first posts on this forum and an attitude like that is not going to get you far here.

Blown, I hope you didn't pay too much for the panels. Oh, by the way, how big are the walls in your garage?

And "POOF," he was gone.
I think we all "get your find." You seem a bit miffed that we aren't knocked off our feet and telling you that you just scored the million dollar score. No doubt what you found is VERY cool, but very few people on here are going to make you feel good by trying to speculate on what it's worth. Just post up the cool pics and let people form opinions and comment at will, instead of picking a fight.

I attacked NO ONE, nor did I start a fight/arguement. Look back through the thread; who said what? I posted them, and everyone else went on the attack.

There's sort of a "Card laid is a card played" rule around here which says once you post it, it stands. However you deleted everything so we can't look back now can we? Maybe you should have just posted the pics and a brief story, and then let the people comment before you started trying to sell us on why this was such a great find. Sometimes people can find their way to an opinion without being led.

Blown...what I do find is you going back and erasing most of your posts after folks responded, save for the few that were quoted.
I really hate it when that happens. Most folks around here don't like it. We really don't like it when it's in connection with someone who is trying to sell something with his first few posts.
Do that again...and you're gone.
For your info, there are more than a few original-Cobra owners here. We even have most of the Registrars of the damn Book here.
