All these cars are built differently, obviously that is
a consideration that should be taken into account.
You can have these cars built for competition and
designed for 150+ speeds but things like front end
float, chassis flex, suspension setup all play into it.

159.725 at Texas Motor Speedway in the fall of 2007. Absolutely, all it had because the engine let go crossing the start finish line at about 6800 or so RPM's. That was my old 428 CJ engine which I dearly loved. I had some mods to keep the front end down etc. But, it was moving around coming out of Nascar 4 pretty good. Fortunately, none of the oil or water found it's way under my tires after the engine let go.

125 somewhere east of Dallas in the back woods. I would have tried faster, but my ears were about to bleed from the noise.

143 front straight at Texas Motor Speedway with my first driving school with NASA. Running the 460 before my 427. Street tires started dancing around. Scared the piss out of me. Damn near missed turn one clockwise. God that was loud, even with a helmet. That's when I learned to also wear ear plugs when racing.

153 front straight Road America at the KIC last year in the race prepared Mustang. I was still getting past like I was standing still. Big time butt pucker factor.

180 in a drag prepped English Ford Anglia (fully blown Chevy 327?) when I was 15 years old back in New Mexico with my neighbor. Just about crapped my pants. No helmet, but he tightened my 4 point belt until I couldn't breath. Never told my parents.

The speedo was safely past 160 (a little bouncy)
tach said about 5950 (still pulling)
5th (.68 )
4.10 rear gear
325-50-15 tire
pretty dam flighty on a two lane farm road.
Sounded great!
Paul (aka Snakeboy) still blames me for the permanent damage to his left ear.

The Gobra went 167 on the transponder at Texas World Speedway during a NASA event two years ago.

120 on the street, 140 at Reno Fernley. Had more RPMs, had more Balls, did not have enough straight pavement

I ran out of nerve before I ran out of road and rpm at 150 mph in 5th. Lost my hat at 135. I was surprised the floor mats didn't get sucked out of the car at that speed! SPF with 418W.

You guys up there at ~150 when your balls bailed on you, did you try bending a little forward to get yourself out of some turbulence and maybe give those balls a 2nd wind?

I've never been to a track that had a long enough straight to find top speed... and running without a windshield, I can't read the gauges anyway. Above 150 the buffeting is so bad I can't see the road let alone the speedo. I have to push my helmet as hard as I can against the seat to stabilize my head enough to see my braking point.

I was out early on a sunday morning I have michelin pilot sx's all the way around 335x35x17's on the back when on the highway they hum I took the little car up to 140mph on HWY 101 and started laughing the tires didn't hum any more and with the 460 there was still plenty left

I talked with Randal from performance unlimited, he told me at 180mph his windshild did bend back and was on the verge of coming completly off.

I know I had the 06 Vette up around 165-170 mph or a bit higher cuz the damn little rubber air dam up front gets pushed down and scrapes on the high crowned aggregate desert roads between 29 Palms and the River...noise scared the high holy he!! out of me first time I experienced it (thought I blew the motor).

The Cobra...140s at Fernley (we're all pretty much the same there) and maybe 160 or so at Fontana on the banking...testicle shrinkage gets a bit extreme about then as the front end starts getting a bit light.

100 MPH on I-90 and backed off. Best low pass was in A4 weapons training near Yuma, AZ. 500 MPH and tracked at 15 feet AGL when I should have been at 50 feet.

That's one fast Audi yuk yuk. 500mph on the deck must have been a thrill, too bad it doesn't count. 100mph on I-90? ... you need to work on that lol.

So when going 150 MPH... can you take your foot off the gas all the way and stay in control? Or do you ease off the throttle? I would hope you could take your foot off the gas all the way and brake a little and stay in control. How did they do this routinely racing in the 60's? I know the drivers were pros and that's a huge difference. They must have done the high speed driving so much it was more comfortable. Living the dream!

Anything over a buck-fitty is pretty hairy, I think. But these cars really shine in 50-130 zone
