Roscoe,
At Pocono I have wondered if they let you run the entire 2.5 mile course or is set-up with a road course inside the tri-oval? I sure would like drive that course. As wide as it is do you have 4 and 5 Cobra's wide? How much track time do you get and what does it cost?
I prefer racing to polishing and my car has a few small chips on it from some of the pebbles thrown up by the slicks. I love to race but I am not where I want to be yet. I will get there in time. I am still learning my limitations as well as the Cobra's. Believe me the Cobra has fewer limitations than I do.
Have a great time at Pocono. I wish I could be there.

Clois,
Pocono can be configured at least 4 different ways for roadcourse schools all use part of the 2 1/2 mile tri oval but none of the roadcourses utilise the entire tri oval. They do run a longcourse school that uses two of the three turns at pocono but they put in just enough tight turns off of the main course to keep the speeds down.
I think there are other tracks a lot closer to you that offer much more than Pocono.

Clois,
If you go to
http://www.imp-auto.com/pda/pages/poconoMaps.htm
there is a map of the track and all the courses.

I know ...
But in 1972 I was working for Cities Service Oil and Gas in Philadelphia and made several trips up to the Poconos and was just curious how the track was laid out. Beautiful country up there! Actually, while living in Philadelphia I made several treks up and down the East coast and into the mountains. I really enjoyed my time up there.

You were there in 72? They have'nt changed it much since. In fact, they havent fixed it much either. There are A LOT of potholes at the edges, right where everybody would normally drop a wheel, big bumps in the transitions from one asphalt to another, some rather odd configurations in the turns etc.
Pocono is not the best place to run, but it's better than nothing. And of course, you can still say you drove the same track (or al least a part of it) that the Cup guys do. It is big.

For drivers experiencing the track for their first time, Pocono is not a bad track. The north course is a bit slower. If you loose it in a turn you just go into a field area and get a bit dusty, no barriers.
It is really not a bad place to start and get your feet wet.

Roscoe,
Nobody so far has seemed to be able to answer this question...what kind of speeds are you driving on the North course at Pocono? I'll be there in July, and the long course in August, and have no idea what speeds to expect.

Klayfish,
I have run the long course once. You can expect speeds in excess of 130, if you and the car are capable. It's an uneasy feeling coming to the turn in point at the end of the straight and not braking. With the banking on the turns you just point it down to the apex and hold on. Have fun!
