Default engine

We need specifics; what, how fast, RPM when the crime took place.

Niles,
Don't know....His son was driving and it just went BANG! I wasn't there but only took part in the autopsy. Maybe some of the other Club Cranky members can bring you up to date.

Default I was there

I was Instructing Jens and not once did he exceed 9000 rpm and the engine gave no hint that it was about the grenade.

OK that was not exactly true. I don't remember what rpm Jens was hitting but this is a pretty mild 302 and he was not working it too hard. If I had to guess I would say we were halfway between turns 9 and 10 and maybe hitting 5000 rpm when the crankshaft broke. I did mention the zero oil pressure readings but was assured that the engine had plenty of pressure and that the gauge was not working properly. I would seriously consider a gauge repair along with the new moter.

And it is not true that I had my foot on top of Jens throttle foot.

Good luck with the "new engine".

So, how many small blocks has Mr. K blown up? And how many other small blocks had problems?

Just goes to show that FE's aren't the only ones to have a problem.

Could be it was simply a weak crank. Which would have led to all the other damage when it let go. Seems very strange that the crank would break before you would loose a con rod or kiss a piston with a valve etc. Yup, I think the Crank did it, (in the kitchen, with the knife)..............

McFez,
This would be the third SB I've toasted in the past 2 years. Number 1 was blown head gaskets, Number 2 was a fractured remote oil filter adapter at "full chat" on the front straight at the freakin' Glen.(I'm really beginning to dislike that place.)And now this Crank thing. I change engines about as often as Cranky changes his underwear.
Got any ideas where I can find a 500 hp diesel that will fit a Daytona Coupe?
