It's about time!
The Shelby Spec racers also have a roll cage that appears to protect the driver from roll over as well as rear-enders and "T" bones.
Based on personal experience, I feel strongly that Cobras on the track should have a complete cage to protect the driver because the single bar just won't do it.
Does anyone need some pictures or do you remember the ones I posted some ~2 years ago?
Be careful out there good people!

Single hoops, do you actually know?
All you guys stating single hoops wont do it, you may be right, and if you want to fit more comprehensive protection thats fine!
What about single seater racing cars they have a single hoop above the driver, and when the cars rolls, hitting wheels, and suspension, this of course bends etc and still has the same effect as a body hitting even though the roll bar is offset, its still above the driver.
My roll bar is of a heavy material with forward and rear bracing, it is strong and has been passed by the motor racing authority here as being sufficient, and after many years of people with nothing better to do than try and outlaw them, I personally fought to have them retained. THE SINGLE HOOP PROVIDES PROTECTION FOR THE DRIVER IN CASE OF ROLL OVER, I doubt whether a full hoop would provide better protection for the driver only, have any of you an argument to support your theories or are you just waving the safety flag. I realise if you take a passenger thats a different story!

Sometimes during a wreck, especially in the grass, the driver becomes nothing more than a passenger !

I'm actually looking around for a spec miata and have the same issues as you. Joe Traut's fully sorted spec miata is for sale for $12.5k or you can get a "donor" miata for under $4k easily and build one yourself. I've seen body dammaged, high mileage Miatas for just over $1k.

Listen to Randy. In SCCA events roll cages are obviously mandatory. However, nascar bars on the drivers side are not (depending on class), although most with sense build their cages with them. There are more injuries due to driver side impact in SCCA than from any other kind of crash, including roll over, even in the cars with the nascar bars. I'd worry more about only 1/4" of glass fiber between me and armco or somebody's front end than I would about a cosmetic roll hoop that will fold up like a cheap suitcase anyway under most anything dramatic.

Who could I contact that makes or could make a full rollcage (minimum 4pt or 5pt) for a Superformance Cobra? If possible I'd like it to fit under my hardtop and still be able to get in and out of the car! I live in the Chicago suburbs.

Roll Cages
These guys are great and they do excellent work. If you decide to call them ask for Mike in the fab shop (he is one of the owners).

tommyboy,
We're not to far away and we do make any type of bar from singles to entire cages for any Cobra. The problem is we need the car for the entire build. All our bars meet or exceed all SCCA or NHRA specifications.
Are you ready for a bar 3's above your helmet? Yes we can put it under your soft top or hard top.
Give us a call at 740-852-5280 or toll free at 1-888-65 Cobra
DV...It's time we finally came out of the closet. Especially on safety issues!

If you have a full width bar, can you use the tube clamps from Camburg to assemble the Halo and front tubes? This would allow easier ingress/egress on the street and still have a full cage with door bars on the track. Just don't know if they are legal.
