Default In Car Timing Devices

Do you use them? What brand? Any problems? Want it for my lapping days to measure my progress on driving improvemet on the track. cb

We use LapTimer, but they are all pretty good. Check first though: most lapping days don't allow them (or any other timing device) except for the test days with competition licenses. With NASA and some of the others, a lap timer also invalidates your insurance.

Some of the SCCA events (Road America) requires timing devices.

My thoughts are that if I am on the track I wouldn't expect my regular insurance to pay.

Clois, every policy is different, but my understanding of most of the polices out there is if you are on the track, at say a performance driving school, you would be covered as long as it is "not a timed event".

I'm sure the insurance industry representatives here can clarify this.

For wheel to wheel racing every sanctioning body requires an AMB Transponder. They are available from the group you race with.

For Drivers Ed you will not be allowed to use a timing device. If you break the rules you can buy in car lap timers with external sensors from intercomp or hot lap.
