Scott, thanks for sharing--that was good. Looked to me like you were consistent and I would say quite smooth (especially in application of throttle). Better brakes ought to shave some serious seconds.

Great video. Very fun to watch. I'm going to get a rag now so I can soak up the drool on the keyboard.

Outstanding!!! Glad to see that you figured out how to load this video Scott. If we could get more content like this we should start a new forum just for showing video hot laps at different tracks that everyone runs.

GREAT VIDEO
It has been years since I have driven at Elkhart Lake (Road America) and this was a GREAT refresher course for me. They have added some "bridges" since I was there.
Can't wait to take my Spec Racer up there to run the course.
Great People, Great Course and Great Fun!
Terry

Tires?
Scott,
What tires are you running? It looks like you've got it stuck pretty good.
I'm used to sliding sideways around every corner in the Legends car.
Did you say you switched to a Jerico trans?
Do you have to clutch on either up or downshifts, or do you just match revs as you shift?
I saw a show on Speed with an F1 driver, I can't remember his name offhand, driving Jeff Gordon's car. They had a camera on him and it was obvious he never touched the clutch, up or down.
I researched using a Quaife sequential trans when I built my Cobra, but the cost was astronomical with all the custom work required. It would've been pretty unfriendly on the street also.
Later,

Guys, thanks for the compliments. It would be nice to have a video section of the various tracks on club cobra. The video was with the mufflers, no open pipes allowed at Road America. It does sound better with open pipes. It was a standard sony 8mm, off the roll bar, standard mic, and strapped down. The strapping part keeps the camera from vibrating. The tires are goodyear bias ply 15 inch stock car slicks from Roger Krause. They seem to work best in a small drift. They will slide more but I don't think its faster in a big slide. I use the clutch on downshifts, mostly because it shifts so fast that I don't want to snatch the rear tires. On upshifts I don't use the clutch. The back brakes were smoking when I came in and I was pumping them once to get a better peddle at every brake zone. They were less than confidence inspiring at that track for sure. I could not dial in enough rear brake but have since upgraded them. Scott

Awesome! Sounds great to! I'm just learn so forgive me, but are the headers more of a standard header or is it just straight pipe.
Also, How fast were you getting up to in the straights?
Thanks,
matt

Also, curious to know what rear-end gear you are running?

I am running 1 3/4 to 1 7/8 step headers. The rear gear is 3.89 with 27 inch tires. You can see parts of the tach in the video when my hand is not in the way as far as figureing speed goes. I was around 8200 rpm at the end of the front straight. MPH, I don't know but I would guess its over 150mph. Scott

Scott:
Fantastic video! Like xlr8or, I had to wipe up the drool from the keyboard so my wife could check her email. : ) Can you post a photo or two of your car and engine bay? Thanks so much for answering all of our questions. The sound and performance of your car is certainly intense! Did you buy a nascar block and build the engine yourself, or did you commission someone to do it for you? After experiencing this post, I had to do some searching on what makes a nascar spec. engine special. Thanks again.
Cheers!

Scott;
According to one of the auto calculators I could get to work on the internet, you were doing 170 mph, using the 3.89 rear gear,1to1 forth gear tranny,27" tall tires and 8200 rpm.....I'd call that hauling a$$...............

Curse you.........I've been playing this video all day.
Take a look at my gallery. My vintage race Corvette set a course record at Road America in 1967 with Bill Morrison driving. His time was 2:43. You are turning nearly 15 seconds faster than his June Sprints winning run.

Ahhh, was that your warm up laps? Wheres the really good stuff??? You never even bounced off the curbs but once!! And you were lifting on every shift. You really need a big block to show you the fast way around...wish I still had one d*mn it...
Hell of a rush Scott. What did you do to the brakes after that disaster. I used to run out of brakes big time until I ditched the windshield and put the McFEz F5000 scoop up to cool off the inboards. A couple of small deflecters did the deed when I went to outboards. Them Jerichos are great, wait till you get the hang of downshifting without the clutch.

Randy, I saw someone ask that they thought it was, but did not see a confirm. I will be looking at a car today that has a Jerico in it as a matter of fact. .

If you guys are interested in a cobra in the low 2:30's, Nelson Garrisons FFR is for sale and he ran 2:32's. Its a spec racer with a 550hp 347 and 18 by 10 inch slicks. I think the new brakes will help me confidence wise more than time wise. A sponge peddle and the cobra hunting around in the brake zones was making me nervous. I had the single piston PBR's in the rear and they were smoking ay one point. I went to a 4 piston willwood. The cobra now has more rear and I have had to adjust some more front brake in it so I think the overall braking should be better. I won't know for sure until I am on the track again. I still need to run ducting to the rears. Anybody have any pictures or thoughts on rear ducts? Scott
