I agree...a JP, Gordon switch would be fun. I think we'd be surprised at how well Gordon would do. JP had a hard time acclimating to the tires falling off dramatically. JP is my man in F1 (bmw guy here). Tony Stewart is man in Nascar---one of the most talented drivers in any series.

I was really hoping to that one day swap would lead to something. The F1 guys are tough. And we could use another Mario across the pond!

Guys,
I don't think anyone can deny the sophistication of the cars or the talent of the F1 drivers.
F1 is just lucky George Steinbrenner isn't involved.
Lots of people don't like Nascar because they play with the rules to much but this is why Nascar has twenty different winners each year.
Just wait till Toyota starts making noise in Nascar, lots of rules tweaking then.

Hey Cranky,
Nascar is getting to WWF-->too much entertainment and not enough sport. Welcome to the police state of racing..Nascar has even told drivers to watch their mouth on the scanners..totally sucks. some of the best part of racing is listening to the scanner during the race. Jr. and Tony are some of the more animated.
Toyota is going to bring a wad of money into Nascar and I think it will be good. It will make the place holders in the 43 field cars more competitive. As with any motorsport--money rules. hard facts of life.

Im a race nut ill watch anything all the way down to street stock at the local track. About three years ago i starting watching F1 one word BORING!!!! I respect the drivers and look at a guy like Michael Andretti who went and got his A$$ handed to him. So no doubt they are some of the best.
I would love to a real IROC type race series with some of the top f1 guys going against the top nascar guys in open wheel cars and stock cars
Put them in everything from featerlight modifieds, cup cars, indy cars, F1 all the way to at outlaw shootout type race At bristol on a saturday night. One race in each type car no practice just strap in and go Then you would really see who the best drivers are. Picture Gordon and Motoya taking a sprint car side by side going into turn one at bristol on dirt then the next week in F1 cars at Indy. Im not a Jeff gordon fan but I sorry after seeing him in that F1 car ill take gordon every time.

OK, so now who has the money to back this?
It would be so cool to take the top few drivers from each major racing class, let them use each others cars (say the last car retired) and turn them loose and see what they can do.
Where can I get a ticket?

A lot of the Cup guys have come up through many different types of racing. Desert, sprints, karts, open wheel. Jeff Gordon and Ryan Newman are sprint guys, Tony Stewart has raced about everything, Jimmy Johnson and Brendan Guaghn are desert racers. Boris Said is trying to get into a Cup car. I was going to mention Robby Gordon and his open wheel experience, but I thought I would list the talented drivers.
I don't know where the F1 guys get thier experience, or the Rally guys for that matter. I honestly think the Cup guys would have an advantage in a multi-car format series.
I would love to see a series like this though. Get guys from F1, ALMS, Rally, WoO, SCORE, Nextel Cup. I'd love to see Schuey in a Trophy truck.

Nascar has seen its popularity rise because of the home grown blue collar drivers, large oval spectator race tracks, a competative format, and advertising dollars. 100,000 people can view the entire race track in person, the drivers are fan friendly compared to F1 or the IRL, and the sponsorship loyalty is higher than any other sport. Do I like watching them go in circle's? No. All of these drivers regardless of sanctioning body or car can drive anything fast. An all around competition would be cool with different cars. Scott

Scott,
I agree, I would love to see 43 NASCAR drivers dropped into the Trans Am series. ...now THAT would be a race. I think Tony and Junior proved they got what it takes at this years 24 hrs of Daytona.
To me, the most exciting races each year in NASCAR are at the road courses; Watkins Glen and Sears Point.
I always make sure I have a full box of Trojans handy for each of these races.

How in the world is one able to hear a scanner if sitting in the stands with all that noise? You're not in one of them cozy air conditioned suites with mini bar for the F1 fans, are you?

Hey guys, my first post on this site. It's a really great site.
I have grown up going to NHRA and NASCAR events. I will give you the one simple word why F1 will never be popular in the US. Ferarri. Simply stated, most of us in the US have a Ford, Chevy, or Dodge in the driveway. That gives people some kind of loyalty to certian drivers. The cars represent the "everyman" in the US. You can walk into a dealership and see posters of Mark Martin, Rusty Wallace, John Force, or Bill Elliot and feel a sense of belonging, that you are amongst people with your same interests. Walk into a Ferarri dealership and the only thing most of us working joes see is someone ushering us back out the front door (happened to me). Ferrari hates poor people (poor=you cant afford their $300,000 cars) , and most of us in the US fall into that category. I'm just glad that some loyalty to US automakers does still exist, or there would be even more of us out of work these days. Whats good for the big 3 is still good for all of us I believe.
Thanks for a great site,
MG
PS, ToyCollector, we use these great isolating headphones, kind of like the ones people use when they shoot guns, but with speakers in 'em.

Where did I hear that Williams just offered J.Gordon an "unlimited" salary to go drive for them. I think it was speedchannel news during a story that Williams' driver flew the coop. Anyone else hear that?

Guys,
If your a Nascar fan and you haven't been to Bristol then you haven't seen the best Cup racing. It ain't real fast but it's real noisy and banging fenders is the rule of the day.
BTW Spotter Joe has some great seats for sale at Bristol. That is if he still gottem.
See his post.

I agree with John McMahon. More road courses.
As it is, the only time I watch NASCAR is when I want to take a nap.

Maxrpm,
Are you referring to the fact that Montoya is going to McLaren... as a BMW guy (I've had 10 of them since 1975, from a '71 2500 to an M3) ... I hate to see JPM go.
As for whether its boring or not ... I enjoy the technology of F1...and hate that they grooved the tires... give 'm slicks and take away traction control.... I love the teamwork, 'personality' and close racing of NASCAR, the amazing car control of WRC, I'll watch vintage cars, Craftsman trucks, Monster Tucks, Drags, Offshore Powerboats, lawnmowers, RC cars, Hotwheels .... I just enjoy racing and can find some aspect of most any of it to enjoy.
...except bicycle races, and maybe bobsledding.... can't watch them, I don't get the point ....
