Open Track/drivers school with single hoop rollbar

I would like to know who is willing to sign up for Open tracking at Beaverun Pa this May knowing that you will be in a run group of only open top cars doing Lead follow type instruction.

I know a lot of you guys don't want to modify your rollbars just for the occasional trip to the track but if I can get Apex to go along with lead follow instruction we may be able to accomodate you guys.

Lead follow is at a much slower pace than instructor in car groups but you still will be able to stretch the legs of your Cobra in the much safer confines of a world class track.

I am guessing I will need 5-7 Cobras to make this happen.

If you have any question post them here and I will try to answer.

BTW, I am the currently one of the instructors for Apex in Cobras and I will probably be the instructor for this group along with another experienced instructor.

I may be interested. Can you post some info on the track.... location/layout/places/safety equipment/places to stay....?

I live in upstate NY, about 20 miles south of Watkins Glen. Have had my SPF at The Glen, but not for true "open track" instructor events, and am looking for some track seat time with instruction. Lead/follow would be perfect.

Just looking into some track time for this year right now. I would be driving my SPF to and from the event.

When do we need to start signing up? I would hate to lose a chance like this. I have been trying to find a track in New England that would let me run the Cobra. I read the convertible requirements and my car meets all of then and then some!

Mike, If you car meets the convertable requirements with rollover protection for an instructor you can sign up right now for the regular in car instructor group.

Well, not quite. What I meant was the converible rules if it was single hoop. I have a fuel cell and 5 point harnesses and such is what I meant. Either way I think I want in. Lead-Follow would be fine.

Thanks for the quick reply with the info. Looks very inviting....
I will drive the SPF to the event if I go. Anyone run into problems doing that, or is it better to trailer to the event?
Just thinking that it would make a nice trip driving the SPF down and up, with the bonus of some supervised track time....
Is there a tech inspection sheet used, or just the items mentioned in the FAQ?

Jim,
Most regulars trailer to the track, stuff can happen so if you drive all the way you may have a problem getting home. On the other hand many do drive to and from the track and never seem to have any problems. I'm related to Murphy so I always trailer.

You will be supplied with a tech sheet in your registration package.

If it all possible, I recommend trailering. I'm still fairly new at this too, and for my first several events, I drove my Cobra. Then I had a mechanical failure right at the end of the day once. If it weren't for some SUPER generous and helpful folks, I'd have been stranded 2 hours from hom. Would have been an expensive tow. Like Cranky said, there are plenty who drive, and on all my other trips, I had no troubles. But it's nice to trailer, just in case.
