Default Vintage racing your Cobra replica

While attending an SCCA inspection day at G&S Autoworks in Oxford, NJ this past Sunday I noticed one of the Tech inspectors looking over my Cobra which happend to be in the Chassis dyno. Out of curiousity I asked if they had a class for my car. He said they have a vintage class and replica Cobras are welcome. He did a once over on my car and told me a few moditications were all that was needed to run with the SCCA.
1. NO slicks, DOT tires only.(Hoosier street T.D.)
2. four point roll bar with side door intrusion protection.
3. Oil breather catch can plumbed off the valve covers.

That was about all my car needs.

I asked what other types of cars would be in that race and here is where it gets real disappointing.

Porshe twin turbo 911's
Mustang and Camaro former GT 1 cars.
Just about every car that you can think of that are better handling than Cobras.

I think I'll stick to open tracking.

That is exactly what I was told a couple of years ago. All the really big boys of SCCA are in our class. The 4 point roll bar was the big stopper for me because I didn't want to start poking more holes in my car for the SCCA events.

Does that mean I could run this if I wanted too?

I'm prepping this car for open track events now, might be fun to run it in SCCA events in a year or two.

Your Cobra replicas can run as GT-1 cars which are a national class. In the region, they will probably put you in the SPO/SPU 'catch-all' classes. You won't be competitive, but you'll still be mixed with lots of fun cars on track to play with. That is true regardless of which replica make you make - as long as it matches the safety stuff you can run in one of the open classes.

You can also run NASA in the SU categories and, if you wanted to, we could probably get you into the ST classes after seeing a little track performance comparisons.
