Driving the Tracks
I'm still looking for those who want to REALLY enjoy their ride by driving the tracks here in the New England area. It's a blast!

FIA. If your looking for guys to do track time with you your not going to find many here. At least not East coast guys. If you mention car show you will get more interest than you can handle. Open tracking and Cobra ownership just don't seem to go together.
The last SAAC convention I attended at LRP we had maybe 25 Cobras open tracking. On the Sunday car show at least 250-300 waxer/showers, go figure.
I have given up tying to get Cobra guys to open track and started hanging out with the real men who are driving Mustangs,Corvettes and Porsches.

Open Tracking
The last time I tried SCCA they said I needed a roll cage and fuel cell to go out on the track. Don't have either yet.

Track Day Events
Racer #99,
I plan to go to Lime Rock on Tuesday, 6/19 and WGI sometime this summer. Maybe I'll travel further south or west to some of the other tracks. Anything interesting on the schedule?

I love driving the tracks. I have only been doing it a few months, but I am yet to see another Cobra. What amazes me is how FAST all the little Miatas, RX7s and others are around the track. I am always the slowest for lap times! I have plenty of HP for the straights, but they kill me in the corners. I have some slicks ordered and think I need to change shocks (I have alden single dampening coils overs) but damn!
At the same time I have a Viper and do well with everyone when I bring it out so it is not all my bad driving - LOL.
How do you guys compare to some of the other non Cobra cars at the track?

8-9 seconds quicker than a Spec Miata and mid-pack compared to GT1 (Blackhawk and Gateway)... but getting better.

rb,
You'll never catch those guys in Miatas or RX7s. They're like little gnats. You're comparing old tech to new. You're not being fair to yourself. I ran against them in a HPDE class, and I felt like "Spike" the bulldog powering about my business with "Chester" begging me to play. Two different classes of cars.
ack,
With the little time I've spent on the tracks, SCCA would not be the club racing to participate in. NASA would be much better. Fewer restrictions, and the drivers are not out for "so much" blood as the SCCA. Actually, a group here in the Southwest is what I'm going to look into more. CVAR. Vintage auto racing. Not as much damage to the cars because of the rules. It's most self inflicted instead of wheel to wheel with your opponent.
A bunch of us from Dallas traveled to Tulsa two weeks ago to run Halette. Most of us couldn't keep up with the damn Mustangs. Again, our old technology verses their new. BUT, one thing I do notice! It takes a whole lot more talent to drive our cars compared to the new Mustangs, Miatas and RX's. So if you give them a run for their money, I'd bet if you switched cars you'd have much better times than them.

Hey Scott,
Aug. 6th (monday) Grattan raceway, Mich.
We have rented the track for the day if your interested.
I see you have been to Gingerman. We rented that track last month.
I'm looking forward to Grattan, it looks like fun.
Give it some thought.

Glen,
It would be a great time I'm sure but...I've got the car down to the bare frame right now for major mods.

Scott,
You told me you were making only M I N O R mods. Oh my gosh what are you doing now. You are already one of the fastest on the track how can I keep up with you?

Clois,
Did I say minor mods? That was probably before I had knee surgery...as I sit looking at a bare frame, unable to work on it while the clock ticks by, the mod are looking MAJOR.

How is the knee coming by the way? Have you started rehab yet? I wish I lived closer so I could come by to help (so I can spy on your MODS). Still haven't put the wing on yet buy maybe by Run and Gun. Working on other priority things.
Get well soon!

Yea, I am with you as far as the Cobra is a heck of a lot harder to drive and you really have to be paying attention and thinking about your next move. There is no forgiveness. First time back in the Viper after a track day with the Cobra I feel like I am in slow motion around the track. The Viper is sooo smooth. I do love to drive the Cobra at the track though.
