not to good with BFG T/A's. They are to hard for a good launch.

I would be surprised if you could do better than a 2.0 with those tires.

Well at least you won't break anything from 'hooking up'. But you might be careful when they break loose and the back end wants to come around. Them some dangerous tires on a Cobra...

I agree the power to weight ratio is insain on our cars, if you plan on spending any time at the track get you some decent drag radials, if you can get around a 1.6 you are doing good, but remember it's just not the tires driver skills have a huge impact, pratice makes perfect though and learning your car is the key

What is the recomended tire for street driving? Good hook up vs. longevety.

Longevity is just not an issue for me, and I suspect most others. Fact is we generally don't put enough miles on the car to 'wear' them out. I run the Goodyear 'Billboards' with big white letters, not DOT approved, short mileage life but stick like glue! Get the best traction rating you can find FIRST, worry about mileage second.

Good traction is really important to save your car from a spin out.

True worring about mileage out of a tire is like worring about our MPG's we built our cars to go fast and have fun so get a good tire Micky Thompson ET Streets are probably the best drag radial on the market right now and you can get them around 200 per tire.

I have 16" rims because of my disc brakes, long story. At the time I bought the 16" rims there were more choices for 16" tires than 15." That has changed. I have owned two set of BFG T/A in years past on a 67 Mustang and a Ford Ranger truck. They look good but they are dangerous tires on wet streets. I bought a 06 Mustang that had BFG G-Force tires on it. I drove it home and got on the Internet looking for tires. But after I drove it for a few weeks, some in the rain, I bought a pair G-Force KDW for my Cobra. Great street tires. I have about 4000 miles on them and love them. We drove 75 miles in the rain on the return trip from the London Cobra Show. The tires performed superbly. If you want a good "street tire" you should look at the G-Force.
They do not have that fat tire look that fills the wheel well on a Cobra.

PS they have Mustangs doing 145 mph in the 1/4 on G-Force tires

I like the idea of putting the Goodyear bilboards on the car but I thought those were for race track only. Are they leagl on the street? Or is that what you mean by saying they don't have DOT approval? The Mickey Thompson drag radials are street tires as well? I have some worn out BFG's on the car now and yes wet pavement is scary. I need new tires anyway and am looking for sugestions. Maybe I should have started a new thread for this. Thanks John

I personally have never heard of anyone having an issue with the Billboards for not being DOT approved. I have my car inspected once a year and either the inspector never noticed or didn't care or it's not an issue. I certainly didn't bring it to his attention and am not about to do lengthy 'research' on the 'law' concerning the issue. Call it, 'plausible deniablility': "What? There not legal? You gotta be kidding me! Who says so?"

Some have suggested it could be an issue with insurance following an accident, again, I've never heard of this actually happening. I feel the car is safer with these tires (Bill boards) than many other brands commonly found on replicas and as such I run them because they DO make the car safer. I was running Mickey Thompson's before, while they weren't bad, there no where near as good as the Bill boards, which also work great in the rain!

I'm skeptical of street drag race type tires because of possible cornering issues. I could be wrong, some say they corner just fine. I don't know if I would be comfortable proving that to myself coming down from 130+ at the end of the straight for the 25 mph hairpin at the end!

Couple of comments for RACERAL.
Looks like stock 19lb injectors on that modor all right!
Reaction time is really good, for an old fart (especially)!
60 ft time is most impressive (especially for street tires)!
8.5 in the 1/8th? Not bad!

A good day all around. And a real testimony to just how good even a stock small block can be. Everytime I ran my Cobra against the local Cobras here they got the 'hole shot' on me.

Not from reaction time as much as their low gearing and those small blocks really build rpm quick. They would get ahead just far enough to give them 'hope', before I 'blew their doors off'!

Those valve covers are kinda cool (but you aint fooling me buddy)!!!

Yup, looks bone stock to me!

I think the valve covers are worth at least 50hp.
Serious tho.. only thing to the motor is a cam,gt40 lower with that bread box intake, which all the experts say hurts the motor...I road the clutch in first..
The funny thing, on the first run, I hit the rev limiter in the first 3 gears..
It also has 3:55 gears.
