Smile Rear end/wheels max width HELP!!

I have an A&C with the standard Axles, running Baer rear discs and 18" HRE wheels.

Now, the wheels were supposed to be perfectly designed for the axle studs on the standard A&C kit. Today, whilst trying to mount the wheels, I find them about 1/4 to 1/2" too loose to be able to use the wheel lug nuts to mount properly.

I can buy spacers or can I cut the studs? If I do choose to cut the studs, what is the proper width from the outside of the wheels end to end (right to left) that gives the proper Cobra look with wide tires (like you show Eddy on your Cobras). I fear if I cut 1/2" from the studs on either end, perhaps the wheels will look swallowed by the rear fenders of the A&C body.

Help!!!

Thanks in advance.

I run up to a 11 inch rim and a 335 35 17 90 % of the time I have to cut the body on at least the driver side to get the tires in. try and mount the tires with the car on jack stands on the axles and see if you have enough room and then you may want to go with the spacers. Call me if you need any more help.
